what did you and your mk3 leon do today

I live in the UK and got 4 new tyres fitted by Halfords last month. I had no idea what my tyre pressures were so I bought this gauge and measured the tyre pressures yesterday. The pressures were roughly:
  • Front Right: 34 psi
  • Front Left: 39 psi
  • Rear Left: 38 psi
  • Rear Right: 41 psi
The label on my fuel flap says 29 psi for the fronts and 26 psi for the rears for a partial load and as you can see my tyre pressures were noticeably off. I deflated them to ~32 for the fronts and ~30 for the rears today.
First rule of cars in the UK - never, ever, ever let Halfords/QuikFit/ATS touch your car. Unqualified and underpaid morons masquerading as mechanics

What do you do when your turbo fails?

Fit new seats so you can sit in your nice new interior and make brum brum noises of course!

I love the Cupra buckets, but I'm not trying to make a Cupra replica and they demand a huge premium, so I went for some Mk8 Golf heated R-Line seats from a 2022 Golf with 14k miles that had a pylon land on it during a recent storm.

These don't come up very often, and I specifically wanted the R-Line version as they're the same as the GTI and R, but without the blue or red vinyl sections across the back. When these came up from a car with the winter pack (not heated as standard), I had to have them.

The airbag plugs are the same too, which I've never had in the past with swapping seats before in VAG vehicles. My seats weren't heated, so I'll be attempting to get the heated seats all working when I've got the more important jobs out the way - like getting it back up and running!

Removed the boot trim plastic as the clips were rattling. ‘Fixed’ them (put electrical tape then glue on the plastic parts, used pliers to open the clips slightly, and shoved the clips back on). Hopefully they’ll stay this time. Put WD40 on the boot handle too while I was in there as it kept sticking open. Taped the side of it too to stop water getting in a clogging it. Also replaced the boot struts as it’s been a while now that they don’t automatically lift the boot. It was super hard to close the boot when I swapped both, so I swapped just one instead. And it’s still had to close, but at least now it opens automatically when the handles opened. Fingers crossed 🤞🏼

I think it’s recommended that tailgate gas struts are replaced in pair. Replacing just one could mean that an unequal load is applied to the sides of the tailgate, which could cause the tailgate to twist over time.

Personally I wouldn't risk having those struts, I'd be afraid of accidentally pressing the boot unlock on my key while the car is in my garage! :D

Nah, it’s not those ones. I know the ones you’re thinking.

What struts did you go for? Mine barely keep the boot open at all, and definitely can’t lift it automatically - any anything resembling a breeze it sags and shuts itself!

I went for the Skoda Octavia ones as recommend on here previously. I think I’ll be returning em though. I’ve put my old ones back on again.

Had mine on for over 5 years now and cant say I have had any issues with them, as with all things though each set can be different from others.

Fully agree about the WD40 on the boot handle, during the winter when all the cr%p gets in there it does tend to stay open.

And did you have to have any calibration done for the sensors in the windows (they could not do mine apparently because my car has been lowered). Mine did not but i was lucky as everything still worked afterwards.

During the upgrade of my infotainment unit to MIB2 High, retrofitter had installed a generic GPS antenna. It has been working well except a static open-circuit fault in the unit. Most probably it doesn't provide the exact signal level unit expects. I don't like faults staying there so I ordered the original antenna and a standard female-to-female GPS cable. After a week of waiting, my orders have arrived. I'm planning to install them in a couple of days.

Wheels refurbed
Small dent removed from OSF wing
Paint correction, enhancement, 4 year coating and interior detail

All been carried out in last month. Really pleased with the correction, its still got quite a few deep scratches but its a 5 year old car soon and spent 2 years in daily use in my ownership. Next up its due an oil change service along with brake fluid, also needs gearbox looking at as its started to hold onto gears in D

Purchased another set of Continental SportContact 7 for the rear (already had them on the front) as the old PS4S were not holding so well on the track.

I was talking to the front of office team and they confirmed that the fully electric motors use a lot more tyres than conventional cars.

Also ordered a turbo blanket and will be doing some testing at Bedford racetrack to see what difference it makes.
