what did you and your mk3 leon do today

Yesterday I cleared out the leaves and muck from the airbox (under the snow guard - not sure it had ever been emptied), then replaced the dirty air filter with a RamAir ProRam dry (non oiled) panel filter...
Then went on a 160m round trip to Yorkshire to visit family today

Did a solid 51mpg average over a mix of road types, so no discernible difference Vs before, and I wasn't driving for economy shall we say!

No drone at all, even at motorway speeds, just a nice little note of induction noise when flooring it - possibly placebo but felt smoother and picked up slightly better from high gears/low rpm too

Either way, for less than £30 it's better than chucking a paper one away, and I can clean it as frequently as I want

I had to do the same Sunday, my mates van limped home on fumes on Friday night and none of his locals had any whatsoever and his van wouldn’t start as it was out. The dirty looks i got as i stuck £20 of petrol in my Cupra then £10 worth of diesel in a can for him was outrageous.

I’m just glad i have a mk3 cupra and not my bugeye scoob anymore, as 1 bar in that would of meant, you have 20 seconds of fuel left, vs 30 miles in the cupra.

Changed the front discs & pads over the weekend.
Went for Zimmermann's from Autodoc. I've read they're OEMs for bmw so thought can't be bad.
£440 for the whole lot against £850 quoted from the dealers.
Very easy to change.

Finally got round to installing the bonnet gas struts I posted HERE

Quality is excellent for the price, and imo I think they look great - much easier being able to open the bonnet with one hand too

Well, my '69 4drive had its first service today at 16k/2 years.

Whilst it was in, I test drove a little Hyundai i20N.....

WHAT a fun car! My Cupra is nicer to look at inside and out, much much quicker, but the raw fun the i20N offered was amazing......

Food for thought......🤔

I made a comparison between cheap Aliexpress ambient lights and OEM footwell lights.
Long story short: the Aliexpress ones are a pretty good replacement!

OEM left, AE right.

Read the blog about it here.

And... I replaced the white charge plate LED by an RGB one. There's no direct replacement LED for this position, so I fabricated one on top of the old one. I have to do some more tinkering to it, because the light isn't diffused, so it appears like a spotlight, and doesn't really add to the ambience:
