What could I do with Carly or OBD?

Hi everyone,

I've got a 2017 (post-facelift) Leon 1.4TSI 150ps FR Technology. I'm considering getting a Carly or OBD11 to make some mods but wondering what I could actually do / which would be the better choice?

There are some specific things I'd really like to do:
1) turn off the annoying dimming of backlighting on the instrument cluster as soon as there's a tiny bit of a cloud or it's just generally winter
2) make the mirrors auto fold when locking the car without having to hold the lock button for 5 sec
3) turn on the parking display on the infotainment if possible, think it may not be on a post facelift...?

Cheers!
Daniel

OBD11 is a bit costly upfront, but to have a reliable, known OBD reader for fault codes, live data, ability to customise car etc, its invaluable really. Plus, if anyone else has a VAG platform vehicle in your friendship circle (three of my mates either have Audis or Seats) we grouped together to buy pro so we can all use it.

I dont think there is a specific way of checking exactly what your car supports but it will do the mirror fold for sure (as long as you have electric wing mirrors)

OPS (Parking sensors on the infotainment) I'm unsure about.

Info on dashboard dim here (OBD11 forum): https://rb.gy/q6xevv

For OPS on display, you may just need to enable this via the 'Parking Assistant' Control Unit, under 'Adaptations' or 'Long Coding' and then search for 'Park Pilot' or 'Park Assist' as attached

Good luck

Long term OBD11 Owner but I am lucky as I have a lifetime Pro account so dont have to renew every year.

See here for a list of a lot of the stuff you can do to the platform but be aware not all cars have the required hardware or software to allow these changes.

With regards to folding mirrors you can do it but only if you car supports the memory function (using OBD11 its possible to check)

In any event there are a few things you can do to these great cars.

The other two options that a lot of people on here use is VCDS and Carista

I've been with OBD11 since day one.

There's nothing better for on the go and quick coding and having something reliable. But when it comes to retrofitting or larger projects, I prefer ODIS or VCP etc.

If you're lucky, like I was, you can buy a lifetime account. I have 2 of them ^^

Took a while but got the obd 11 device with pro VAG plan. Had a play around today and successfully managed to change the mirrors to fold automatically on locking the car and changed the central small infotainment screen to have the carbon background - which looks pretty cool :)

Found the settings for adjusting the dimming of the dash but when I try to change them it says function not available… Will try again tomorrow and perhaps look through the OBD forum but if anyone has any tips I’d be all ears! :)
