I've got the car booked in for it's MOT next month and typically I've just got a creaking, clanging noise from the rear right area when I go over speed bumps 🙄

I'm presuming it's suspension related and just want to get some info on what brand to request ir avoid if it's shocks, springs etc, I just want the same quality and ride.

The car is a 67 plate 1.4tsi FR ST

Cheers!

I've bought Sachs shock absorbers for my 2015 FR SC. The shocks will be replaced on Tuesday. I also bought top mounts, drop links and bump stops. I listed the parts I bought here.

Just one suggestion, when buying aftermarket shock absorbers, always check your chosen manufacturer's web cat to see if they do offer a suitable one for your exact model of car, in my case, I did my research for my wife's 2015 Polo 1.2TSI 110PS 6MT 5 Door, then discovered that ECP were being lazy and did not offer the correct part number, so I had to chat to their warehouse and in doing that was given their stock number for the Sachs shock absorber that Sachs listed for that car, please note that I did know the PR code for that item on that car - that helps.

Edit:- have you prepared for the problem maybe being a broken rear road spring - or checked for that? Same potential problem buying the correct aftermarket spring. Lesjofors is a brand that I trust for quality.

Thanks guys.

I'm just after OE quality stuff really, I'll let the garage have a look next week and go from there, I was just interested in seeing if there were any brands to avoid that a garage might offer as an alternative

"Proper" workshops will usually only fit brands of parts that are available to them from their usual motor factors - ie so that they have the protection from being able to get faulty parts handled quickly/easily - and I can understand that.

Yeah that's what I'd expect.
I just wanted to make sure the there isn't a brand from the main parts suppliers to avoid with shocks, springs etc, as I know some people say, avoid X brand with other parts etc.

I've been looking at the same for my 2016 1.8 FR ST. From what I can tell ECP don't all do the full correct range for my car. They only list "Sports Suspension" on the front shocks, from either Bilstein, Munroe or Sachs. But the Rears only show for Axle types, either Twist-Beam, Multi Link Or Rigid Axles with mention for either not DCC, or Standard Suspension. No mention of any rear shock suitable to Sport Suspension that my FR is fitted with.
I'd rather get matching brands front and rear, so I'm going to do a bit of digging and see if I can find the matching set of Bilstein's (B4's) via any Supplier.

I'll see what the garage comes up with if anything dows need replacing, I'm hoping the noise is something loose like an exhaust clamp or heat shield, it has that hollow metallic sound

I think it will be. I doubt it's the shocks. Creaking from the rear suspension over speed bumps is very common. Only car I've not had it on was the Cupra but it doesn't seem to do any harm. Don't know what it is. Dealer failed to fix it twice on our first Leon and gave up after that.

I've had the slight creaking for ages, but the clanging appeared suddenly so more like something has come loose, I'll find out on Friday when I take it in for a check over 👍🏼

Yeah, the clanging will be something lose. The creaking is normal, sadly.
