Water leaking under back seat

Hi,

I noticed the other day that there was a wet patch on the back seat. Well I've just lifted the seat base, and it's soaked right through the foam. I can't see any noticeable leaks from above, so it seems its settling under the seat base and soaking upwards. I can't feel any wet in the boot or on the floor.

Anyone have any idea where this would be coming in? It's only on the left passenger side rear, closest to the door. The middle and right side are fine.

Thanks

Check around each door, for any water caught in the rubber seals. If there is then the door might be leaking inside, behind the card.

On my last VW I had to reseal three doors, where the foam seal around the carrier, speakers etc. had perished in just 4 years. I don't think the Leon has carriers anymore but the Golf 7 still has the same crappy foam seals.

If you find water behind a card you can track the hole by directing a hose onto the window seal and watching for where it exits.

Thanks, I'll investigate properly this weekend. I'm gonna take out the back seat and bring it inside to dry. I'll leave it out until It's sorted. Not what I need in this weather !

Ok I may have found the source.

I took the seat out and there was a right puddle underneath, but nothing around the sides or floor. The main boot seal looks OK, but the plastic surround on the rear light is bent out a little, not flush with the chassis. After lifting the boot floor panel, I can see a small bit of water ingress.

I could be wrong, but it seems the water is coming through the rear light and working its way down the small channel on the boot floor and settling under the seat.

Is it really that easy for water to get inside, through the light cluster? I looked at the other side, which is flush with the chassis, but it's hardly a great looking seal. These seals or plastic surrounds around the light are totally exposed, even with the boot shut

I'm gonna do a hose test this weekend, hopefully i will see exactly where it's coming in. My car is parked on a slight downward slope, so that would make sense why it's running straight down under the seat. It's lashing rain at the moment, so I'll probably have another puddle in the morning :censored:

Anyone else have this problem at all?

Get yourself some builders chalk and dust around where you think the leak may be. Next time it leaks you will have a trail in the chalk showing where the water came in from.

The chalk can easily be wiped away.

My 3 week old Cupra has water coming through the top of the front drivers door seal. I noticed it's been misted up often, but felt a drip on my arm and could see water forming and a couple of minutes later dropped again. Don't want to take it back to the dealer so soon!

I'd definitely take it back for fixing if I could. If it's leaking, it will probably only get worse, i wouldn't risk it if I were you.

I'd say there is no way a small amount of water is getting in there and not getting soaked up by carpet/sound deadening. It wouldn't make it all the way to the seat's.

sure one of the floor plugs isn't missing?

I'm not sure of anything to be honest. I should no more when I fold the seats down and hose it down, with a bit of luck I'll see it coming in.

You've probably already checked but make sure the door seals and seals around the window are firmly in place. It's not un common that it's not been pushed on fully at the factory, I noticed the inside of one my window seals wasn't fitted properly lucky it took 2 mins to route it correctly.

Something else to consider, on my Mk2 the rear screen washer pipe came apart behind some trim in the boot below the parcel shelf, that was drivers side though. I'm not sure where it is on the Mk3.

Thanks for the idea, I will add it to my list of things to check. Hopefully going at it tomorrow. Thankfully I don't need the back seat at the moment, so it's staying in the house until I fix the problem. I will update when I find the source, cheers

Ok I've finally found the source and it's really simple, thankfully.

For some reason the main rubber seal behind the light, was completely out of the hole. Also, there's 2 locating pins on the light, but one of the small locating grommets is missing.
