Sounds logical, although the guide I was following talked about removing the lock with the panel. I was also in the door to find out why my passenger door lock didn't work, so I guess I didn't really consider the easier option.

The B6 is based on the Mark 5 Golf I believe, so the design may have changed. However, I wouldn't expect it to change significantly.

It would be pretty easy to tell whether it's the same when you remove the interior panel.

Thanks Slimy. It was somebody on another forum that was having problems with a soaking wet floor and he is going to check the door seals. I found a diagram for him on a VW forum so hopefully he gets it sorted

I've just got around to trying this fix - loads of silicone later and I am hopeful the leak will have been stopped. Thanks for the accurate and easy to follow instructions!

So after 2 days of down pour here in Glasgow, i need to get fixing my door seals. The drivers footwell is very wet, the front passenger only slightly. Luckily the rears seem dry.

So searching on ebay for "butyl sealant strip" and there isn't any 6mm dia like in DubSteve's Guide way back in this thread.

There is 5x6mm, 6x8mm, 8mm dia and 10mm dia.

Would the 5x5mm be sufficient or would the 6x8mm be too big? Or have people discovered it needs to be a different size now?

I think mine was 8mm, but I'd go bigger rather than smaller. You want it to 'ooze' and fill the gaps, I think the 5mm stuff would be too small.

Some 9mm stuff here at a good price: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/200660700002?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

Just bought some myself after falling victim to a leaky door today :(

Have to say the info on here has been superb as always.

so was your 8mm ok slimy? I've whittled it down to either 8mm or 10mm from 2 sellers on ebay.

EDIT: just went ahead and ordered 8mm.

I have started to notice a large amount of water sitting under the bottom of the door when i open almost to the point of overflowing in to the foot well and continuing to drip out while the door is open. Could this be the start of the footwell leek?

Would like to catch it before the puddle apears
