Water in Boot

Looks as though my R has a dreaded Seat leak. Rear window misting up, investigation reveals wet boot floor, sound deadening material, spare wheel and quite a lot of water in the spare wheel storage area.

I know that some others have experienced this probolem but I have not been able to find any resolution posted on the forum. Does anyone know whare the water comes from and if there is a standard fix?

If the Cupra was built by the germans I'm sure all these problems would not exist, the spanish don't give a damn, I remember in the late 80's early 90's the XR2i's were not undersealed ???

I guess the cost saving that customers see on an Seat against an Audi or VW comes through spanish labour.

Yeahhh....:bored:

VW Sharan's, Galaxy's and Alhambra's all built on the same Portugese production line....Sharan's and Galaxy's with the same probs as the Alhambra but costing £1000's more.

:bored:

"Ignore" option applied to you as you seem it fit only to nit-pick Seat's whilst not owning one.

IMO p**s off to a forum for the make your own car.

Bye!

It does not matter WERE the fords of the 80s,90s were built non were rust proofed properly or well built. GB versions were worst and the german ones were not too hot either.

VW polo 95-00 were all built in spain (on the same production line as the SEAT ibiza) and no one ever mensioned about build quality problems with them.

The MK4 golf has just as many maybe more build related problems than the Leon, i know this as my mate works at a VW dealers and is always trying too cure problems with the MK4s. if anything the Skoda is the better built one of all the other VW group cars.

As for the boot leak, check the rear lights are tight and also that the ones in the hatch itself are too. also check that the drain holes in the hatch lid are clear and its not the hatch filling up with water and leaking into the boot.

I agree with Brian, mine was the same, wet spare wheel well but the topside of the boot carpet was dry. There is a wash/wiper connection behind the nearside light cluster and the water was running behind the boot lining and under the carpet.

Thanks all. I will check the washer stuff out tomorrow. May well be as I have though that the pressure on the rear washer has reduced a little over the last week or so.

Spot On

You were absolutely right. There is a junction/connector for the rear window washer behind a plastic panel in the boot just to the rear of the nearside rear passenger seatbelt pully thing. This connector was virtually disconnected and water was pouring down behind the boot liner every time I used the rear washers. Problem fixed now. Thanks a lot for your help.

Bri, I have to say that I used to have a MKIV Golf GTI 1.8T 'V reg'.

I didn't have one problem with it in the year that I had it.

At the moment my car is at the dealers with a knackered coil (again), I know this problem could have happended on the Golf also, but anyway....

A few weeks back I had to have a Gasket replaced because it was blowing.

Also I need to get my insulating tape out when I get my car back to stop the squeaking of the rear seats ! :(

I DO also feel that they are not put together as well as the VW's and I DO have a Seat !

I was told that when it' freezing cold outside the water in the pipe can freeze and when you try to use the wash/wiper the pressure is enough to split the pipe from the connecter.
Glad you've got it sorted.

Also you have to take into account that there are tons of Golfs out there.

And also that the majority of customers will have something bad to say about a product compared to saying something good about it !

Rhumber.

When a guy who does not own a SEAT comes on here and sees it fit only to slag them off then I reserve the right to put him on my Ignore List.

If he owned a SEAT and had some input relevant to his ownership then fair do's, but just to come on here and coat-off a car he has never owned is IMO out of order.

There is also a linkage just under the dash in the passenger side footwell as I have recently found out to my horror!

Went to use the rear wash wipe and I heard a gush of water onto carpet in the passenger side footwell. Eh??! I thought.
Tried it again and water just pissed in along with the smell of washer fluid antifreeze. I could'nt believe it. The carpet was soaked. It was dark at the time and I could'nt see much so the next day I had a good look and found that tucked up in the dash under the glove box is a washer fluid pipe joint which had come apart.
Me is not impressed.
The fluid can't have been frozen because of the antifreeze ( a high percentage volume as well) and it hasn't been that cold either.
The worst thing is its a bugger to get to and you can just about manage to get your hand in there to press them back together with great difficulty I may add.
I've done this twice now and its just come apart again. I tried wrapping some insulation tape around to hold it in place but that hasn't lasted long either. Car is now booked in at the dealers next week.

Er i owned an XR2 for a "short" while not very good to say the least, love them seat's though, we got a little Arosa, not leaky and a Leon Cupra.. . . . .which is leaky. . . .

Mine appears to be leaking from the rear light cluster to body seal will be applying a liberal amount of silicone tommorrow,

also take great care when changing the pollen filter and putting the "lid" back, they don't work very well if they're screwed up . . . .

I used to own a mk4 golf, it was full of crap designs and faulty parts, HOWEVER, the seat is 70% the same as the mk4 as they are built with the same components and design.
The Leon has slightly less 'common faults' but suffers from many of the same ones.

Also, Leons are generally better looked after than mk4 golf's, as the golf has now become the 17 year olds car, and the fast car for younger drivers.

VWs, Audis, Seats and Skodas are all practically the same, and people who kid themselves that their AUDI has nothing in common with a Skoda are fools.
The difference is that Audi generally put more technology in their car, followed by vw, seat and skoda. However as my step dad found out, the new skoda's are more reliable than the new vw's even though the parts may be common between them.
This is a fact that VW head office confirmed when he was having huge issues with his passat.
After having had new passats for 20 years, he went for a Skoda Superb for his last taxi.
The car blows the VW out of the water.

My first port of call for any brand new car would be the Seat dealers, followed by Skoda, then anyone else.
