Anyone have experience of retrofitting the stad VAG SatNav unit to an Altea - it supposedly just slots in and all wires are present?? Sounds too easy to be true!!!!!

As an aside, where would the GPS antenna go (keep it clean!!!).....any drilling involved??

Cheers

never seen anyone retrofit the new shape sat nav units, but on th eolder LEon ones it can be done, GPS usually sits up under the rear view mirror so no drilling just some trim removal and refit to place the wires where they need to go.

Is that the RNS-E that goes into audis? If so, there is a bloke who supplies and fits for £1k (into a standard audi double din) over on audisport.net

Hi

the German seat-forum has it all ... unfortunately it's not in your tongue, but pictures might speak a tousand words ... ;) ... and there are little helpers such as

=> http://translate.google.com/translate_t

... so here you go:

=> http://mfd2.heim1.de/index.php/MFD2 (the fitting instructions ... although for Golf5 it's been working for the Altea as well, as lots of our forum members stated)

=> http://www.seatforum.de/forum/showpost.php?p=146941&postcount=15
(to reset when MFD2 is in SAFE-mode)

Good luck when assembling .... Klaus

... depends on your skills ... and your purse, I'd say. ;)

I myself wouldn't bother with such a complex installation, as ...

1) I'm not nifty enough when it comes to electronic equipment.
2) there's too much controlled by ECUs and I would be afraid of connecting wires in a wrong way.

But that's me ... I don't know if you feel the same.

And for motivation: There are severeal guys from our forum who have succeeded in mounting the navi-device with no probs at all.

I aksed my dealer techs about it and they said basically its far more trouble than its worth if not ordered as an option, because of gps antenna etc, and aparently the SEAT unit is rubbish anyway - a TomTom is far better aparently

Yes - after much consideration I came to a similar conclusion ie I'd be better putting 600-700 towards a better spec'd aftermarket SatNav / DVD / CD combo as the standard unit is pretty unspectacular......
Thanks for all the opinions though.....cheers Bob
