All changes once your remapped:D You end up right on the edge of gravity... stage 3 cars have to be dead careful as the earths curvature actually acts like a ramp. Admittedly its never run against a black hole, but planets are easy.

I bet the Stage 3's could enter the event horizon of a black hole and be the only thing to come back

It's easy to justify the cost of more expensive fuel, which I always try to use unless it's a properly skint month!

Say it's 50litres and 5p, £2.50 more, as most say, the difference is nothing in the grand scheme of things, I don't tend to see much more of a difference price wise in my local garages.

I do suffer the same problem as some here though, in that a Shell garage doesn't exist anywhere near me :/

V power all the way!!!! i dont look at the price of it i just know its the better stuff to use in a turbo'd car. to put the better stuff in is a fiver a tank more im not bothered at all by that.

I have had my car nearly 5 years now, and i can count on 2 fingers how many times i have used 95 petrol. Both times were about a tenner, and if i am honest it was only because a) i was running out of fuel and they had no super, or b) i was feeling very skint.

However using Optimax, then Vpower always, i thought i would try Tesco 99- and true to form, you cannot tell the difference. At the time, Tesco was cheaper than Vpower but now its the other way around. One thing i have learned from this thread (excuse how stupid and borderline naive i am) i should apply for a clubcard. I did have the V power card, but most times (well always really) i would pay, then think 'oh bugger forgot to use the card again lol)!!!

I do agree about the weight thing though, my LCR feels like a slow pig with a full tank, unless of course its on the motorway (will not go into the scientific information..leave this for other peeps haha). But as most LCR owners will agree it goes from half to empty in no time at all.

right so here's what i found

Tesco unleaded - 260 miles to the tank
Shell - 405 miles to the tank
Vpower - 450 miles to the tank....(looks like its worth!!!!!)
Now trying out Momentum.... shall post asap.
I might redo Tesco unleaded.. coz it looks way off.. but i can say my driving has not changed and my route has not changed....

Don't take this the wrong way mate, I'm not calling you a liar but I'm finding it difficult to believe what you're saying, probably because I haven't much knowledge in the way of higher octane ratings and the such but a few things I wanted to ask to anyone who can answer.

From what I've read putting anything above 95 ron fuel in our 1.6 engines is a waste. Our engines can't utilise the higher octane rating so there is no benefit, what so ever in regards to the RON. Which makes me think that the increased fuel economy you got may have been down to additives in the fuel cleaning the system rather than the fuel itself. Am I right in thinking this?

Out of interest why did you put in the shell super anyway?

Mate that was what i thought,,,,,
I was just trying all types of petrols.. just to see if any change.... when i did a cost-benefit analysis Vpower turned out to be cheaper(not by much)...have to say not much difference in power. But Tesco unleaded was rubbish..

You managed to almost double your fuel economy by using v power over tesco 95? That sounds farfetched to me, or you deliberately drove with a heavy right foot on tesco 95 and like a granny on v power!

There's no way Vpower can get you nearly 190 miles extra under the same conditions, I can't believe it.

Doesnt the handbook suggest you run the 1.8t on 99 Ron anyway.......
Dont know if the engine is designed that way....
Just a thought. :)

as i mentioned... i will redo the Tesco 95 once again and c.. i do not have a heavy right feet. but leaving the Tesco out... It seems u get better MPG with Vpower and putting the cost into perspective it turns out to be cheaper...
it would be great if we all could get more inputs from others....
