i used tesco 99 for ages and used to think that it was the best for my mapped lcr, then suddenly started using v-power. car felt much more alert with v-power. i thought maybe this was in my head but every now and again when i put or have to put anything but v-power in the car it feels like its lost some of its urgency. put v-power back in and its completely alive again.

i have read the thornley motorsport thing many times with my mate who's got an e46 m3 and yes the report shows according to their tests that tesco 99 is better in terms of power produced. however both of us have tested and realised each time that v-power helps the cars respond better.

plus i dont know if this makes sense but car feels lighter and healthier on v-power.engine feels like its less worked when driven hard.

also i have been informed that tesco is made up to 99 ron via additives etc but v-power comes out the box made as 99 ron. if this is true then would make sense to think that octane booster added to v-power would make more benefit compared to tesco as its already been boosted and mixed.

just my thoughts guys so take it easy on me.

in conclusion v-power is definately the best available if you have access to it. funny thing is i have some tesco 99 in car as i was out of fuel at the time just now but will defo be getting back to v-power asap.

also i'll say, maybe each persons car behaves differently to a certain fuel so good luck either way.

Had the LCR from new and used BP for two years before switching to Optimax then V Power and even the GF noticed the difference on V Power.

The car responds better and dare I say it sounds better, even though its bog standard.

As for the weight issue, the LCR is a sturdy girl but on 1/4 tank she is at her peak, but the visits to fill up become tiresome.

Full tank = Sunday roast dinner, fine if you want to sit in front of the TV after but if you are after some sport, best sleep it off.

never put super market rough stuff in in only v-power

very pricey but i don't want any problems, helps performance to

You Did say "Really, extra weight, give me a break" pointing out to me you don't feel the difference.
I feel the extra weight (lower power to weight) and notice the difference on handling, it might only be slight from the one change but i notice every change. The fuel in your tank sloshes about moving the weight in the tank to the left or right or to the front (braking) or rear (accelerating) making your car want to move in that direction, this happens on a much larger scale when you drive a tanker carrying liquids.
Yes the wind makes a difference but everything that makes a slight difference add together to make a huge difference overall.
You don't need to be driving an F1 car to feel what the car is doing. My Ibiza Cupra 20VT (180bhp) is a fairly light car compared to some so adding weight becomes very obvious. Now My RX8 (231bhp) weighed more but had higher power and was less noticeable (although i never filled it to the brim). My Colt CZT (189bhp) was lighter than my Cupra and it suffered badly from extra weight. My Celica VVTi (140bhp) was heavy'ish with low power so also suffered greatly especially the handling.
How can you explain that away when thats what i've experienced??

I agree the extra fuel is noticeable in the Ibiza. I had 2 mk4 Cupras (PD160 and 20VT) for a few years and used to always fill up small amounts at a time because putting say more than half a tank of fuel in made a big difference to how the car felt.

It's not as noticeable in my LCR (for whatever reason) if I have a full tank or 1/4 tank.

Defo not that noticeable in the LCR.

Ibiza's are lightweight that's why :p ;)

LOL now your contradicting yourself now and saying peeps are putting more strain on there engines and gearbox carrying more fuel, I run 110+ octane so are u now making a poor choice!

I'm done with this conversation, it's boarder line ridiculous/never never land.

LOL, It's all true, weight puts strain on an engine and gearbox no matter how little, over time is has an affect, might be a very very long time before it has a costly affect but it still does, hows that a contradiction.
I'm only stating facts. It's up to each individual to think about what they do and what it may cause. Some may not care, I take it to the very extreme, we're all individual and do what keeps us happy in the time we have.

I have a Leon 1.6 S... Had been using tesco unleaded. and got 260 to the tank... and I put in shell super unleaded and it gave me 405 to the tank.... no difference in driving... am trying VPower now.

I use Tesco 99, purely cause its a better fuel than standard unleaded, gets me clubcard points which means i can get airmiles, resulting in a free holiday in the long run. Car gets good fuel, i get a tan. Job done.

Also i never fill up fully, half a tank if i can, extra weight = less power to weight and more weight = less MPG.

lol, you sure the first tank was full? 145 miles extra, I doubt it!

Sorry mate

Personally, since I have had the car (a couple of years now) I've only put V-power in it except on 2 occasions, the first was on the drive back home from buying it, which was some motorway service station stuff, and the other when I um... ran out of fuel and had to jerry can 5 litres of BP into her

Apart from that its only been the good (or expensive, delete as appropriate) shell stuff. I justify the variance in cost per tank like someone else has done. Its basically a drink from Costa, or lunch from Asda or Tesco. Not exactly earth shattering, so I'm willing to put up with it for now.

...Also the centre of gravity would be lower on the half tank as the fuel naturally goes to the bottom of the tank (this is part of Einstein's theory of general relativity)...

Ok - time for most people to switch off :) Now, I'm no physicist major, but doesnt Einsteins theory of GR explain about the more curvature of spacetime (which equates to gravitational pull) from objects with larger mass. You are talking about centre of gravity which is basically the average location of the weight of an object. So how does GR apply there then? One is weight location on is grav force. Not bashing - just wondering, seeomg as you chucked it out there as fact... But anyway back to fuel Grrrrr :)

PS. I know this takes the prize of dullest post content ever on this forum. Apologies :p

yes thats 145 miles difference... i was shell shocked ... have to say.. all the motorway driving on tesco stuff was at 50-55 and the shell was more or less at 60.
I thought my car was rubbish coz of the economy when using tesco..but now i know its quiet good.

lol - I am a dull man :D

The whole theory covers all gravitational forces, which are all one really.
If we didn't have gravity we wouldn't have weight and the location of the weightless fuel in a weightless car wouldn't matter.
Space-time curvature happens due to the gravity of a planet, star or black hole etc. The larger the mass the more gravitational force therefore space-time is bent which slows time. This is why the clocks on Satellites run slower than the clocks on earth and why if we look just to the side of a massive star we can see galaxies that are actually behind (hidden by) the star.
OK i'll shut my trap now and stop boring you all! :D

All changes once your remapped:D You end up right on the edge of gravity... stage 3 cars have to be dead careful as the earths curvature actually acts like a ramp. Admittedly its never run against a black hole, but planets are easy.

My car doesn't even know what other fuel tastes like, V-Power since new or Optimax as it was then.

All I can say is that after 9 years, with the few mods I got listed below, its putting out 186bhp still. Thats all I need to know about V-Power.

Funny thats the same umaped figures i got when i went for my stage one...........on Tesco 99.[B)]

I'm just using standard Shell/Sainsburys unleaded in my LC. Can't say that I have ever used the 'better' stuff in any of my cars. Maybe when I am feeling a little less poor after buying the LC I will indulge in some gourmet unleaded.
