Unable to unlock doors from inside if the car is locked!

Hi,
I recently bought a Cupra Leon Estate (310bhp)

Last week I got out of the driver seat and locked the car before my wife had opened the passenger door.
She wasn't able to unlock it.

I’ve just tried with me in the driver seat, locked the doors with the key and couldn’t open the drivers door.

Child lock is disabled in settings.

I tried the centre console unlock button but nothing happens.

This is a potentially serious security / safety issue.

am I missing something or is there a fault?

Pretty sure the key battery is ok and the kessy system works fine.

Please help, thank you.

Why would the car unlock from inside if you've locked it with the key - pretty shoddy security. It's to stop vagabonds smashing a window and opening the door with the interior handle or unlock button.
It's called SAFELOCK, I think - standard on all VAG cars as far as I'm aware (a deadlock basically!). Pops up on the dash when you lock to tell you to check the manual.
Press lock once on the key and the car is deadlocked and can't be opened from inside.
Press the lock button twice on the key and the car can be opened from inside with the handles.

All my VW’s had safelock from at least the 2011 mk6 Golf I owned. I can’t remember if the mk4 and mk5 Golfs I owned before that did. So as you’ve said, it’s probably standard on all VAG cars.

@NickD - if on the rare occasion you do need to lock passengers in the car (can’t think why you’d want to, but there may be legitimate reasons for doing so), then as @Richiepoos has explained, a double press on the lock button on the key fob should lock the car without deadlocking it. If those passengers then need to get out of the car in an emergency situation, they should be able to open the doors from the inside. There should be a section in the Owner’s Manual covering the safe lock system (I think Cupra may call it Safe security system).

Thank you for educating me.
I can see this makes some sense now.
Unlike someone else who replied, I don't want to lock anyone in the car, it was just a case of me locking the car before my wife had opened the passenger door and she couldn't get out.
I did try the double lock option on the key and it does work, so thanks for that.
I hope you can see my side of things: -
I get out of the car first. I usually drive solo.
I lock the car as I usually do, as soon as I get out.
My wife is still in the car and hasn't yet opened the door.
She is unable to get out of the car.

If someone breaks into the car and can't unlock the doors from the inside, they have already gained entry (albeit by climbing in).

I'm a bit on the fence with this one, but at least now I know it's not a fault, I just need to ensure I don't lock the car until it's void of passengers!

It's the opposite (as far as I can remember) of my old 10 plate focus. One press locked the car but could be opened from inside, two presses deadlocked. Even though I've not had that car for over 6 years my wife occasionally double presses the key fob now!
