The Hankook RS2's have just dropped in price to £115 each so still not sure, the Goodyear F1 Assy is still £100 so will be £60 cheaper for 4 tyres. So my shortlist is:

1. Hankook RS2 - £460 for 4.
2. Dunlop SP Sport Maxx TT - £440 for 4.
3. Goodyear F1 Assy - £400 for 4.
4. Yokohama Parada 2 - £365 for 4.

My 2 pence regarding the Sport Maxx tyres; in the damp they are pretty terrible! I've just returned from a trip to the Nurburgring with nearly new Sport Maxx tyres fitted to the car. IN the dry they perform very well, progressive limit and quick, sharp response.

In the wet however they were less than good! A friends A3 with very worn Toyo T1R's fitted had far superior traction and was generally more planted. While my car was trying to switch ends his looked far more stable.

Very good in the dry though!

hi got a leon cupra r stage 2, have tried goodyear eagle f1's, both gsd3 and asymetrics, michelin ps2's and falken 452's . i have the suspension modified, also so prob changes characteristics of tyres a bit.

firstly, the goodyear eagle f1 gsd3's- very good tyre all round, more so in the wet, cornering grip is good, gives good indications with regards to limit and good traction.

then goodyear eagle f1 asymetrics, awesome traction, good cornering , wear rate slightly hi considering im running fair bit of power on a k04, sidewall can be bit squidgy as grip on cornering is at limit.

falken 452's, bought these as was bit tight on finance at that time, cannot begin to tell you how dissapointed i was, car just feels detached , grip levels are ok, cornering is no where near as good as goodyears, feel squidgy, not happy i have to say.

michelin pilot sport 2's are by far the best tire i personally have driven on thus far till date in my 12 years on the road. having tried toyos, hankook, pirelli p zero rosso's, goodyear, falken and michelins.
with the michelin ps2's-when cornering the car just bites in hard, great feedback thru the steering, traction awesome in dry and good in the wet, wear rate is decent also. i know its more expensive but i regret not selling something and getting these instead of the falkens. they dont really go squidgy or suffer due to heat as much in my experience.

all in all, i have given all these some vigourous driving down the back roads so been tested in harsh acceleration, cornering, wet, dry, cold, hot and would recommend the ps2's as think they'll fair best in road and track from what ive driven with them. they just do it all. im sure others might have a difference in opinion but thats just my two pence worth. also there are other tyres out there that might be an option that i havent tried.

oh also, mate with an s3 stage 1 with over 300 bhp has just put on the michelin ps 3's which are new and are supposed to be awesome, granted bit pricey.

either way good luck. choices choices :)

Which tyres did you go for in the end? I am in the same boat as you and I am in need of a very grippy road tyre but something that can perform well in the wet also, leading me to choose between the GY F1 Assy or the Hankook V12 EVO, I think the RS2 might be a bit more geared towards dry days only.

I've discounted the Toyo T1-R, very good on my old and light Civic but not highly recommended on the VAG scene. Also discounted the Vred Sessanta due to more negative reviews than the GY F1 Assy and the Falken FK452 which I have right now which were good in the Summer but since the power has increased they're starting to let go a little, especially in the wet & cold.

On a side nite, has anyone heard anything about the Federal RS-R tyre? I know it's track focussed but it is supposed to be up there with the other brands and a lot cheaper, problem is that I can't even find a price in the U.K.
