Ahhh ballz

sorry bud, I'd get back to your tyre fitter and ask them why they are selling and fitting tyres that are not suitably rated for your car.
Hopefully they will see the error of their ways and do the honest thing and get them changed for you.
I had the proper GSD3's and they were fantastic but compared to the F1's they seem very ordinary. One good thing about the GSD3's was they had a nice looking tread pattern but bollox in the snow. But then thats what winter tyres are for.
You don't buy ice skates to run a marathon in.
Horses for courses, F1 Asymetrics if you want the best at a very good price, falkens if you want something that will do but will be in the back of your mind when pushing it that you've not got the best tyres on in a FWD car.
Each to their own

F1 asymmetrics, you won't regret it.

You will if you drive the car hard - < 3000 miles from a set on the front, yes they are better than the falkens but they're not twice as good in terms of price and they die 3 times quicker given the same 'use'.

It's a compromise but for me ( and a few others) i'd rather corner a bit less agressively and spend £400 a year on tyres than £1200 which is what a years motoring for me would cost using the new F1 Assymetrics.

Just been round a few tyre places in the Chesterfield area, everyone wants nearly £150 per tyre for F1 asymmetrics. The best I could do (believe it or not) was Kwik Fit who are doing 25% off all Goodyear tyres if you have 4 fitted and I think it was 10% off for 2. The top and bottom of this is I've been quoted £510.84 for 4 Goodyear Eagle F1 asmmetrics 225/40/18, fitted with valves and balancing. Is this a good price because I don't think I'll beat it without travelling or buying online? Also, just for the record everyone I've spoken to this morning says stay away from the Falkens. As I said before I've had some good reports on these but I'm afraid I've had too many bad ones.

Bare in mind this guy has no humour bone in his body, deadly serious). He's advised me to get Avon ZZ3's all round and i'm looking at £468 fitted.

In all my searching through various posts on this site, i've never heard of Avon zz3. This chap (again looking very serious and almost angry) claimed these are the best tyres out of what i suggested and are resonably priced at £117 each - " They fit them to all the Subarus/Evos/Mercs and used to be standard fitting to Aston Martins " he claimed. cheers

Regarding the Avons, sounds like he's trying to shift old stock at over inflated prices... a full set of Avon ZV5's which are the latest version is only about £400.

Even the premium brands (Bridgestone RE050A's, Goodyear F1 Asymmetrics, Dunlop Sport Maxx etc.) should come in slightly cheaper than the price he's quoted for the Avons.

I had Avon ZV1's years ago on my old Punto HGT, they were good for the money - always seemed to be on special offer, a lot cheaper than the premium brands...

Having tried most of the premium brands on my LCR, I found the Bridgestone Potenza RE050A's and Goodyear F1 Asymmetrics to be the best all rounders - really not much to split the two, although the Goodyear has a slight price advantage. :)

Try here, fitted locally (Just enter your postcode) >>> http://www.tyretraders.com/SearchTy...Ratio=40&Rim=18&Speed=Y&Manufacturer=GOODYEAR

I never use high street places for tyres (National, kwik fit, ATS etc.) mainly because of their rip off prices and lack of knowledge... the "best" tyre is the one the manager has a stock room full of and needs to shift.

As far as Falkens go, I had a pair on the front of my 206. Cheap as they are, I'll never even consider them again.

I've just had a look at Camskill, (thanks for the link Junior Senior) and they want £443.80 for 4 F1's delivered although I doubt I'd get them tomorrow as it's Saturday. I've just been to an independant who'll fit me 4 this afternoon for £490. What do you reckon to that price? Be quick.

£480 fitted through your local tyre traders partner, so not a bad price... although it does help if you have a mate in the trade :p

Back from the dead
:-o Were they run-flat tyres?

nope, just standards.

They noticed the inner edge of the rears were on the canvas when it went in, and had no choice but to change all 4 together. They had either 4x Conti Sport Contact 2's, Michelin Pilot Sport 2's, or some Pirelli's so as I wasn't legal I got it done there and then. I went in with £300 in cash and came out with a bill of over £600  Could never believe that I could have worn a set of rears out in 10.5k

Back in December I paid £232 for 2 x F1 Assym's fitted by the mobile Kwik-Fit service. I rang them up and stated that E-Tyres could do two fitted for £232 and would they price match - and they did

Hi Guys,

Thanks very much for the advice. I agree with a few of you that this manager was trying to fob me off by selling me old stock for high prices. No wonder he was aggressive, trying the old 'sales bully' technique i think. Avons - Shmavons!

I'll try and get best prices eagle F1s then i think. So i need to make sure they are W/Y speed index and XL rating yes?

It was National Car Tyres/exhausts by the way, i'm gonna try Kwik fit or get them ordered online

thanks again, i'll keep ya'll posted:)
