Turbo Flutter/ Wastegate chatter

Hi!

I'm driving a Ibiza Cupra 1.8T. And im a bit bored of the resirk sound..
So i consider to remove the resirk valve to make the lovely turbo chatter sound!
I know that its really turbo stall, air that gets stuck inbetween the throttlebody and turbo..
So its air flowing " backwards" through the turbo making it stall and make these sounds from chopping air. I know you loose power and get more turbo lag.

I also know that some turbos cant really handle it. A friend with 1.2bar on a Garret GT28RS turbo warped the turbine wheel pretty badly after one small trip without a dumpvalve..
But i know more people which are running like this, for longer periods without warping their turbo.

So can the K03 turbo handle the flutter? Or will i crush it pretty fast?
If so, what turbo can handle it? K04?

Cheers, Vegard

dont...
why is the flutter sound so important to you that you would want to do all the things you already know about to your engine?

bad idea

your car of course

Its just like some people drive their car totally slammed or have a big droning exhaust.. Its just about how you feel about your car and what you like.
Even a atmospherical dumpvalve will make more turbo lag and loose power, alot of people are running these to get the sound they want.

If somebody knows if a ko3 or ko4 can handle some flutter, then i will try atleast!

you think?

ANY leaking DV will not help.. be it recirc, atmos, cold side etc................

want chirps, and additional lag, comp stall......

Report back how it goes for you over time........ you clearly know the risks as you have already said

You are looking for someone to give you assurances, despite you knowing the downsides??
Good luck with that

I know of one customer, with k03 hybrid, track car, whose DV failed, and it snapped the shaft, which allowed the compressor wheel to part off its own housing! Impressive fail.

yeah, because i know some turbos handle it very well. Im not aware of which turbos the Escort Cossie is running, but i think its some Turbonetics. Another guy i know is running a Mitsubitsi turbo TD06 or something..
The only thing i know is these drawbacks, and that a GT28RS can't handle it at all.
So for what i know, a k03 or k04 could handle it.. and this is what im asking for.
You now told me your experience with turbo stall on a k03 hybrid, and that's pretty bad.. so i won't do it...

You should have written that the shaft will break in your first post instead of telling me i should know better..

Haha! We are clearly abit stubborn both of us!
I'm just saying, some turbos can handle it better than others! The k03 can't handle it obviously from your clients experience. Some turbos "just" get abit of slack, while others disintegrate completely. I don't want either to happen, therefor i ask here.

Thanks for the answers :)
