I had the actuator stuck since I bought my 1.8 TSI MK2.That got sorted together with turbo being inspected but now I get this high pitch whistle-like sound when I cold start the car. It lasts about a min. or so and then it dies down. Is that normal? I can't really find any consensus online. Some say it is because it is turbo warming up the cat. converter, some say it's some air hose on its way out. Any experience would be helpful. Thanks.

Sounds like the SAI (Secondary Air Injection) system that warms up the cat on a cold start. If it's anything like the MK1, the SAI pump starts to leak air where it's rivited together, and that is what makes it sound a bit like a vaccum cleaner. Won't do any harm, but it is annoying.

If it's the same pump they used in the mk1, you could either drill out the rivets and replace them, or use some sort of sealant to seal the gap.

Neither, only affects emissions for the first 2 mins or so. No effect on boost, gas mileage or anything else.

Thanks, one last thing of the last thing  I just remembered a possibly important detail I forgot. It happens only once the car has started moving. Not in neutral. Hence the question. Can it be diagnosed after the car warmed up?

In that case i'm definitely not sure, like i said i'm only familiar with the set up on the mk1. On the mk1 it runs no matter what gear you are in.

Hello All,

I’m new here and have been recently hearing a sound upon start up of my car and not sure if it’s the turbo or anything else as the sound is coming from where the turbo is at top of the engine. For extext I drive a 2019 seat Leon FR 2.0 petrol. This sound is new to me and I’ve never heard it before.
It amost sounds like a stone in a tin can but only happen twice upon start up no matter if the car is cold or hot. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I will attached the video link for the sound and you can hear is very clearly too. https://youtube.com/shorts/pOrtgqQZ15A?si=46QYoJayVxOMJFXT
