right, my dpf light just cam on, the second time in 400 miles, is expected as i just do short trips.

but i have just spent the last half an hour driving up and down my duel carriage way to turn it off, as was advised by seat.
this was doing about 45 in 6th, and it took twice as long as i was tiold it should.

so has anyone got anty tips off how they get theres off, cruise at 40 in 4th, just hammer it, get on the motorway and do 70, any tips and tricks appreciated, as if i have to do what o just did everyweek, then the gains off having a diesel, are gone, along with the fivers worth of fuel i just wasted.

cheers chris

Cruise at 70 in 4th or 5th for a few mins :) Depending on how much fuel you want to burn. You need to get the exhaust hot enough really - I *think*

i've found that 60-70 in 3rd does the trick nicely but get some funny looks from other road users:p
its **** that the manufacturer think this is okay for their customers to have to do though - if i could ask my customers to do some half assed work around everytime their servers stopped working i would be out of a job[:@]

Having a think about it - your car should automatically attempt to clean itself, no? With the hotness and the funny sounds they make when they're trying to auto-regenerate.

Maybe you should get your sensors looked at :)

my sensors have been changed once already but now i'm paranoid its going to conk out on me when i least expect it! i read somewhere even if i do lots of miles (i do around 120miles a day, motorway) in 6th gear at 80mph ish the exhaust won't get hot enough to do the trick on its own so i thrash it a little once a week.

It's worth noting that when I was in the local AUDI dealer yesterday.. they actually have a posh leaflet telling you how to "take care of your DPF". It's a pretty naff state of affairs considering other manufacturers have automated systems to clear them!

So do we, it just seems it doesn't work terribly well. (I think).

45mph in 6th is hardly giving it some. I think that you will be barely ticking over at that speed - certainly not giving the system enough heat to "do its thing".

Really though I think that this should sort itself out but you do need to give it a bit of stick occasionally

sit it around 4,000 rpm for 6 - 10 mins or so (depending on road i'm on) not hard acceleration, just a constant 50mph ish .... then if i drop the clutch and it still idles at 1,000 rpm, then i switch the car off ... then on again, that sorts it :D

Doing 45mph in 6th sounds like pretty bad advise to me, I'd imagine that's just gonna clog the filter up even more. Just find a decent stretch of road and give it a bit of welly without using the top two gears, keep the revs around 3k-4k for a few minutes and it should do the trick.

i would dread to think my sensors have gone, as the car has only done 400 miles so far.

and this is the second time my dpf light has been on, but i do only live 5mins from work, without been able to go past 30 on the way, so i expect it too come off.

i have seats booklet, which tells me to cruise at 40 for 154mins, doesnt say what gear though.

all i can see as soon as a company brings a replacement pipe that doesnt **** the ecu up, i am buying one

smilley792, 154 mins at 40!! thats 2.5 hours LOL ;) steady on that key board mate......

I was told stay above 50mph until the light goes out as if you drop below this the re-generation
progress starts again.

Had my light on once but a quick blast above 50 cleared the light in 5mins (1st time in 6.5k miles)

Smiley if you live 5 mins from work i have 2 possibilities.....

Walk to work and save a few quid.... then go for a blast in the car when you get home....

or...

Leave 15 mins early and go the long way round (having a blast on the way)

If the light still comes on then your sensor is knackered but at least you had fun finding out!!!

i live 5mins from work in a car, i have walked before when i was carless, and it take 35mins to get there, not something i want todo everyday, plus i go home every dinner, and cant walk there and back in a half an hour break.

it has come on on 174miles, and then again at 400. and i did exactly as you said, i came the long way home, via the dual carriageway systemt o get the dam thing to switch off.

i agree though, surely a company as knowledgeable as the vag group could have come up with a self cleaning solution.
the dealer did explain to me what was going to happen, but i pressuemd it would be like every 1000miles or so, not this often.

i am know wishing i had bought the civic type s instead:ban:

Smiley, if your sensors are showing a dpf fault then surely there is a fault with the car?
I thought the filter was designed to coolect the soot over a period of time then re-generate/clean itself.
At 400 miles I doubt it would be full?? much like say a hoover bag being full already??
Mine hasn`t come on as yet in 4500 miles ( am awaiting the day though) I reckon yours is faulty:confused:

I have just clocked up 18K miles on mine and I have never seen the DPF light. I don't thrash it everywhere, just the odd blast here and there. I do a mix of motorway and town driving.....
It's strange how this doesn't affect every Leon fitted with the DPF

Take a look at the manual.

It says that when the light comes on it means that the "auto" regeneration hasn't been able to do the work properly and therefore it asks for your assistence.

In normal conditions the light doesn't need to come on. But that obviously depends on a lot of factors.

Mine has never lit. And i have already clocked 24.000Km. And it does quite some city circuit so it clogs and cleans quite frequently.

When the light comes on the manual clearly states that you could help the proccess by driving in 4th gear around 1400/1500rpm (i can't assure the right rpm now but it's one of this values) for a while.

Hope i have been helpful!

Regards

Im sure there is no possible way the dpf could become clogged at 174 miles, if i were you i would go back to the dealer and get them to check the sensors etc... im no expert but i think there are several different sensors.... if the dealer gets funny, which they shouldnt then start talking about wanting your money back for an obviously faulty car...

my original post wasnt meant to be taken seriously, sorry... i reckon the problems you are having will only get worse as i have heard from some others on here if you dont get it sorted now...

Im lucky like a couple of the other posters, i only know where the dpf light is from when i start the car up and all the lights come on... and i do my fair share of poodling around town at under 2k revs without a problem...

a few times the car has felt really rough for a bit and i guess that was the 'regeneration' but maybe they just forgot to put the dpf on mine :funk:
