i'm seriously considering selling my car and moving away from VAG cars (SEAT in particular). i'll tell you all why i'm feeling like this and then maybe you'll understand why i'm feeling so down at the moment.
ok, so a couple of weeks ago i was driving my car when all of a sudden there was a loud bang and lots of metallic grinding/crunching noises. prior to that i had a gearbox leak that turned out to be a loose drainage plug. anyway, once the box had gone bang i had it stripped and inspected by a local specialist and 4th and 5th were wrecked and so was the layshaft. he also pointed out lots of other damage caused by excessive heat due to no oil so it looked like i caught the leak too late. i managed to get a replacement second-hand box and with a new clutch kit and labour the bill came to just over £900.
so i picked up the car today and all seemed fine until just before i got home when i could smell gearbox oil. i had a look under the bonnet and there was fresh oil everywhere! it looks like the driveshaft seals have gone. at this point i'm going to point out that the place that did the work didn't supply the box, i did. when i got it all the oil had been drained out and it had been jet washed so there was no sign of leaks. there is a 4 month guarantee but i doubt anything will happen when i ring the supplier to complain.
as you can probably imagine i'm really annoyed at the moment and thinking of getting rid once this has all been sorted as i just can't be bothered with it all anymore. :(

It can be more than annoying when this kind of thing happens - I can remember feeling physically sick at some stages of car ownership.

Not going to help - but neither problems were really down to the car being VAG or SEAT...

Don't sell it Karl, you'll only regret it. Everyone has downers, some bigger than others!

Once it's all fixed you'll remember why you bought it in the first place!!

(p.s. you heard anything from John, I can't get hold of him on email, phone etc)

i haven't ever had it advertised for sale before  i think the reason why i'm so down on my leon at the moment is down to the fact that whenever i seem to have any disposable income to spend on it something happens. i was either going to go for a turbo back exhaust or a FMIC, not anymore!

Sympathy to you there - When I bought my car, within 3 weeks - It had been towed, broken in to, required new tyres, insurance excess paid for and 2 sat navs bought.

I came close to getting shut of it as it was clearly cursed!

Still got it and, to be honest, I'm still not sure....

my LCR is sitting on standard coloured wheels. if i do decide to sell it on i'll have to get the wheels refurbed and also get the gravel rash sorted on the front bumper or i won't get much for it :(

I know what u mean , whenever I`ve wanted to spend money on mods some thing has gone wrong . In 2.5 years of ownership
coilpacks
temp control sensor
coolant bottle/sensor
rear doorlocking mechanism
cv boot
door seals redone
NEEDS.. new climate control system , screen bleeding

I had an Alfa 156 b 4 this with no probs at all  . I do like the car but it`s just frustrating with all the COMMON FAULTS .Always puts a smile on my face when I drive it though :)

I know the tables have turned slightly now mate but you know you'll want to keep it once it's fixed. what else would you buy that was that quick for the money around the same age? theres not much choice mate.. stick with it.

Thats the problem , what else can u get with similar performance for the same money . I like the Audi TT , same engine & silly money . My mate has a 225bhp and had coilpack failure a few months ago and VERY expensive Audi servicing costs . At least a lot of LC probs are niggles and not major issues , but still p****s u off when u look after the car & things go wrong.

Was the drain plug left loose after a service, they don't normally work loose?
If so you may have a claim against whoever serviced it, presumably the gearbox guy will supply you with a report stating the failure was due to overheating caused by loss of oil.

Dont get rid............you cant sell the car just because of a oil drain plug was loose and the lack of oil caused all these problams. once this problam is sorted you shouldnt experiance any further problems with your car. Vag always do a good job of putting a car together so why turn away to another manufacturer when the same problem could happen to that car.

It's all about having confidence in the car or manufacturer - once that's gone, it's hard to get it back...

in all honesty i'll probably end up keeping it in when i get it back from the garage.
Karlos mine robbed me for 500 quid when i snapped the anti roll bar which killed the tyre as it went
Gaz, i had new front & rear ARB's fitted when i had the new gearbox fitted, the drive home was GOOOOD before i found the leak!
