i'm seriously considering selling my car and moving away from VAG cars (SEAT in particular). i'll tell you all why i'm feeling like this and then maybe you'll understand why i'm feeling so down at the moment.
ok, so a couple of weeks ago i was driving my car when all of a sudden there was a loud bang and lots of metallic grinding/crunching noises. prior to that i had a gearbox leak that turned out to be a loose drainage plug. anyway, once the box had gone bang i had it stripped and inspected by a local specialist and 4th and 5th were wrecked and so was the layshaft. he also pointed out lots of other damage caused by excessive heat due to no oil so it looked like i caught the leak too late. i managed to get a replacement second-hand box and with a new clutch kit and labour the bill came to just over £900.
so i picked up the car today and all seemed fine until just before i got home when i could smell gearbox oil. i had a look under the bonnet and there was fresh oil everywhere! it looks like the driveshaft seals have gone. at this point i'm going to point out that the place that did the work didn't supply the box, i did. when i got it all the oil had been drained out and it had been jet washed so there was no sign of leaks. there is a 4 month guarantee but i doubt anything will happen when i ring the supplier to complain.
as you can probably imagine i'm really annoyed at the moment and thinking of getting rid once this has all been sorted as i just can't be bothered with it all anymore.
