Thinking of budget tyres for the back

Im going to get Michelin PS2s for the front 2 wheels of my car, and due to current financial restrictions,i was considering budget tyres for the back 2 wheels which are more than half price of the michelins.

I know i need grip on the front, but is it terribly important to have the best of the best on the back too? il be hitting the drag strip often, shredding my front tyres. and usually just street driving.

will i get away with 2 budges on the back?


and how about track use?i know i will burn through my tyres but are budget ones bad news if you want to hit the track?

actually your better putting the better tyres on the rear mate not the front.

budget and track doesnt really cut it, unless you want to be saying hi to the tyrewalls

whats the budget you have... falkens are only 65 a corner, not worth going cheap wanli shite for this price

i always thought good grip on the front is better, are the falkens good? £65 is a good price, will i get away with all 4 being falkens? or would you say i should still get the PS2's for the back?

my budget is like £500 which includes money for bushes (i can get them fitted myself) and any leftovers going towards an anti roll bar.

Spend the ARB money on decent tyres.... if you have the money for good tyres, and are trying not to spend it then that's verging on needing a flaming!

Imagine this thought.. You're sat in a field upside down with fuel pissing over you after your budget tyres & new ARB have flung you into the hedges.

Wouldn't you rather be on the road, with the good tyres & no ARB?

I always read put the best on the back....

In practise I've always found the opposite, the car is very unlikely to oversteer before the front lets go unless you lift off, even then its barely LOO compared to my 205 GTi!!! I'd rather have good grip on the front to pull me round a corner and so I don't go straight on when I want to turn!!!!

And, to be honest theres absolutely nothing wrong with the Falkens! (mate even has them on his 300bhp+ 350Z and highly regards them).

I'm going to be going for Falken 452's all round, they seem to get really good reviews and are a very good tyre and only £65 each whish is another bonus.

I have shite wanli on the front and they are just dangerous dont buy budget tyres.

Having budget on the rear could put you into oversteer as the front will keep gripping as the rear tries to overtake it, even worse in the rain.

Cant wait to get good tyres on the car.

i do need bushes since i have a worn bush which is causing excessive tyre wear on my nearside front wheel. i can go without the arb, the michelins will work out to £240 for two, as well as the bushes being around £120 for the whole set (might as well do them all while im in there) leaving me with £140 to play with... in which i could get the two falkens for £65 each.

i would wait till i had money but my tyres are almost bald and this bush isnt making it easier for me so it needs done asap.

or if falkens are decent i could go for them, which falkens are they? any particular name/series?

that an ok idea for now?

Just put new wheels on mine. tyres i had before were worn on front and new budgets on back. car handled awful. understeered everywhere.
now i have new eagle f1s on front and old pirellis on the back and it oversteers!
you cant win.

don't do it dude. you've spent so much on making the car look the way it does.

it'd be a shame to stack it because you skimped £100 on decent rubber.

you cant win.

Put the new tyres on the back until you can get another 2 tyres for the front, you can feel the understeer starting easier i think so can control it.

You can win by having good tyres all round.. :)

I'd agree with most ppl on this thread that you'd be better off with good tyres on the rear from a safety pov. The back can come round on you in wet weather with shoddy rear tyres.

Also, treat good tyres as a handling mod (like ARBs), not something that's unimportant and to skimp on... :)

but with lesser tyres on the front i wheel spin a lot more...my michelins saved my wheelspin compared to the dunlops i had originally...this is why im thinking of better grip at the front. most of my races are straight line etc

If it's for pure straight line traction then, for sure, put the better ones on the front. Just remember in the wet that the rear will be a little looser on cornering and you'll be fine...
