The 'New' Exeo, Still Causing Confusion...!

Having booked my Exeo in for a 4-wheel alignment check today (had some minor bump steer and tram-lining), I arrived at the workshops and parked right outside.

Mechanic 1 (let's call him Bob) walks right past my car taking a look and asks how he can help - I explain the booking.

He invites me into the office where several other customers are waiting in silence.

Mechanic 2 joins us (let's call him Dave).

Bob turns to his colleague and passes him my key.

Bob:- "Right Dave, can you bring this gentleman's Audi in and do the 4-wheel alignment please?"

Dave:- "Err, it's a SEAT"

Bob:- "No, it's an Audi, an A4"

Dave:- "Err, the key says SEAT" (he holds it up to prove it). Bob looks confused and turns to me.

Me:- "It's a SEAT, but you're close, I can't afford an Audi, it's the next best thing"

So, some time later I return to the workshops to be greeted by Bob again.

Bob:- "Ah, the man with the Audi" ;) "All done sir!!".

It kind of sums up Exeos in the eyes of the unaware, mistaken identity since 2009! Mind you, if it's 70% Audi maybe Bob was right after all...

Not the worst term of abuse though is it. I previously had a Volvo S40 which was a very nice car. It had a quality interior, was well screwed together and never let me down. For reasons known only to certain people, ie sad beggars, some people would take great delight in telling me that it was "only a Ford", in a VERY smug and self satisfied way. It used to irritate me, not the comment but the manner in which it was made. People with Jaguar X-Types had a similar thing with Ford as well.

Somehow the accusation of "you are not driving a SEAT but an Audi" will not have the smug put down of the Volvo/Jaguar/Ford brigade.

My colleague refers to my Exeo as an "ALDI A4", very amusing considering he drives a Mazda 6 TS2 which is a complete nail after doing 77K miles in 2.5 years.:p
The build quality in his Mazda is shocking.

Jealous? I think so.

The fools! If it's a series 1 S40 it's actually a mitsubishi charisma! :)

To be fair to them it was the later model which was built on the same floor plan as the Focus.

Many mfrs now share engines and parts, it makes sense as long as you choose the best bits from each mfr.
