I just had a call from my partner whilst she was out and she has said the Temperature Gauge reads 90 as normal but there is a red light flashing next to it.

I've done some research and some have said its the coolant level and others the Temperature Sensor. Anybody usually know what is the likely cause

When it happened to me on my car it was low coolant. It also came up with the low coolant warning on the MFD. 3 loud warning beeps went off as well if I remember rightly. Mine was losing coolant due to a leaking EGR cooler.

Is this too much coolant as my partner decided to top up with water whilst she was out to be on safe side and now I'm concerned she has put too much in

In the photo is another mark just below the ridge but is that the max mark as I have read else where that the drops coming off the G12 symbol is where the max mark is

Mine came on after I topped up the coolant. The light can come on if the concentration level is low, it uses the viscosity of the coolant monitor coolant level. I drained some coolant and topped up with neat coolant until the protection level was around -40 and the light went off and stayed off.

Little bit of advice

The 2 metal contacts inside the bottle build up deposits get a screw driver and gently scratch the 2 contacts. My Fr did this 4 months ago cleaned contacts and no light so that's my best advice.

yes its the line under the ridge when the coolants cold. The G12 drops are just a reminder to use G12. Above that line the fluid cant expand enough so your putting more pressure through the engine/hoses etc.
