Hi peeps

I always hate early winter starts in my Ibiza, because it took ages to warm up, and I'd be shivering for the first 5-10 minutes of my journey.

However, I've noticed the Passat (same PD130 engine) warms up FAR quicker, even before the top of the first hill I'm getting nice warm air through the vents.

Why would it warm up so much quicker, have the VW's got some kind of coolant pre-heating that the Seats don't ?

quite possibly, I asked a question some weeks ago, the silence was deafning? take a look at the coolant outlet at the rear of the head, you may have a multiple fitting which feeds the rad/oil cooler/ heater and temp sensor it may have two or three (if your lucky) glow plugs my understanding is that these are only switched @-10 deg C and are switched off at 80degC either that's incorrect or it's pretty cold in them thar hills a pic would be nice if pos' cheers Nic

You mean some kind of glow plug that heats the coolant ? I'll have to take a look.

I've hardly even looked under the bonnet yet, don't even know how the engine cover comes off yet !

not sure as my ibiza takes literally a minute to get warmed up and warm air coming out the blower, where as my old Golf Tdi 130 took on some morning nearly 10 minutes to get warm, i was happy then that i had the heated seats to compensate.

The ibiza seems a lot better.

Strange how your Ibiza heats up that quick

It's one of the reasons I searched for a Passat with heated seats - now find I don't really need them with it warming up so quickly. They are nice though :)

coolant heater you say?

Yeah i was a bit miffed when i got it, as thats the first hting i was worried about, but i drive to the station in the early hours, and my old 1.8T would just be getting warm by the time i wa there, this one is warm literally round the corner, so no less than 2 minutes in to the journey.

i'm not complaining mind, especialy this morning as how cold it was.

I left work tonight, and within half a mile (level road, gentle driving) there was nice warm air coming out of the vents, don't know what's fitted but it's MUCH faster to warm up than the Ibiza, loads better for the winter. And nice'n'toasty on the heated seats too, lovely :D

in the heater system you can have a aux heater. it looks like it is electric. i might be wrong. have a look on the etos parts. that would be a nice mod to do. that on the ibiza i dont know about the leon
