Tdi noise on hot day

My car suffers with the same problem. It's such an annoying problem as it only happens on hot days (so 5% of the year in England) but when it does happen, it's so loud and fairly embarrassing driving around town!

I've taken the car to a SEAT dealership who knew what I was talking about after mentioning what was mentioned in this thread, had a look at the plate, modified the position, but it hasn't fixed it. It's just made the noise slightly different.

I then took the car to a VAG specialist who have said they can also modify the position of the plate, but as there's so little room to bend the plate, it can easily ping the plate back the other way and not fix the issue. So they have suggested removing the plate all together which is 3.5 hours labour and involves taking the gearbox out which will cost £288 (inc. VAT).

I've already forked out £90 for the pervious SEAT dealer to look at it (which didn't fix it), so I'm basically thinking I may aswell pay the £288 and remove the issue altogether as opposed to keep getting places to modify the position of the plate which might not fix the issue.

What are everyone's thoughts? Is this a reasonable price for this job?

Thanks in advance.
