this is getting depressing now :( last week i blew the top pipe off the turbo, and it was making a really loud spooling noise, fixed that, then a couple of days ago it made a funny popping noise again, but now it has no boost and is making a different sort of noise, like a really loud whirring, sort of like an air raid siren. lol. i know it sounds strange but that's all i can think to describe it. there's no smoke at all and the car still runs fine. does this sound like another hose or pipe has popped off somewhere or does it sound like the turbo is knackered? thanks

you got any lights on your dash?? (surely you must have with no boost)

sounds identicle to mine except mine was boosting, but then it was loosing it and limping, horrible noise on spoolup and its kinda like a whirring noise

mine turned out to be turbo/manifold gasket if thats any help, but like i said, mine did boost so your problem may be totally different

p,s no smoke is good

When my mates turbo blew in his golf 1.8t there was no smoke at all. It had no boost and when accelerating you just got a loud whistling noise. We could find no leak so took it to a vag mechanic who said the turbo was knackered!

of course with the abnormal amounts of boost pressure you 'were' running anything is possible

certainly wasn't doing you any favours running out of its limits

might be worth looking at the n75, and the actuator you have fitted

No boost and a lound siren noise = new turbo required.

Sounds exactly as mine did. I dont think the turbo is completely knackered, more the bearings or something. It suspected the oil feed to the turbo failed starving the bearing of oil which is why it makes that sound.

£1k to fix which a recon turbo unit.

£1k for a re-con turbo (K04) unit from SEAT inc Oil pipes etc, and thats fitted.

A new turbo will cost you just over £1k alone from SEAT, the recon was £660 or thereabouts.

lol @ 1k. if it is the turbo that is knackered then i can probably source another K03s for about £300! how will i tell if it is the turbo knackered though?? is there any sure fire way? and as someone mentioned, is the internals of the K03s interchangable?

I'd be lookin to pay less than 200 quid for a k03s.

Theres a lot about if you look.

I've seen one this morning with a brand new forge tip on for 275.

thing is, i don't want to swap the turbo over if it definately isn't that?! is there any certian way to tell? there's no smoke or anything and my boost gauge won't even go above 0psi the same as it did when i blew a hose?

Phil, where did you see that K03s?

take it to your local tuner if you are unsure, or stop the guess work and go out and pull on all the pipes, make sure they are securely held on, check for splits in old perished rubber pipes.

go out and get your hands dirty :)

How can you tell the difference between the 2? (ko3 & ko3s)

Wouldnt want to buy a "ko3s" which turned out to be a ko3
