Struggling cold start after reMap

My turbo was recently cleaned (vnts) and while it was cleaned I was offered a remap, thought he ho y not, while I was there, the car started no trouble, I even stoped started from a petty station, a shop an home and then left it for about 2 hours and it really really struggled to start

It was turning over and going to fire up then didn't, the more I turned it and put te gas on the more it was goin, loads of white smoke came out in this process then eventually 20 seconds in roughly it fired up and ran as normal

The engine is a alh 1.9 tdi, mk1, and had codes come up on vag com previously as
17664 - engine coolant sensor open/short
17656 - injection start regulation control deviation

The other was a maf sensor which I don't have a code for as I didn't note it and a positive deviation on charge pressure (which should have gone now with the vnt cleaning) all these were present before the map and caused no problems apart from no turbo

Now the map ranges the turbo through the revs rather than a big massive boost on top end so it has more low end torque for quicker acceleration and a bit hairy on top end too, you can certainly feel it, I'd be happy if it wasn't for this blip iv wrote about, any ideas?

I would try changing the coolant temp sensor and tryin as you have a fault regarding that sensor and if faulty would cause starting difficulties.

Would you say there's no possibility of it being the map? As I don't trust the map I think, it strange how all was fine before and when the map was put on it all of a sudden doesn't strt?

I'd say it was almost certainly the remap. Was it free? Worth what you paid for it, then.

Any guarantee? I wonder how much it will cost to have it removed.

If I were in the market for a remap I would only consider one from a thoroughly reputable specialist who will back their product with a warranty and who can show a track record of satisfied customers.

A remap gives you extra performance by taking the engine's operating parameters closer to the edge where power turns into damage. This is not something I'd do lightly.

If someone with no track record offered to put a remap on my car I'd ask him how much he was going to pay me as a development engineer for his product.

I understand what your saying, too many people jump into something they don't understand, giving remapping a slandourous name,

I had the remap from my usual mech, iv not really had a bad experience, he had the map on other alh engines that iv seen so there would be no reason for me not to trust but something's gone wrong sonewhere

The mechs just came out and adjusted the diesel pump timing as it was out, now the car fires first time (better than before) no problem and is alot quieter, he said it was due to the cambelt slipping...

From my experience a cambelt slips bang ur engines gone, am I right? Im not sure if the map was on different timing parameters for a cold start, or if my coolant sensor had adjusted these (for giving the wrong delivery of fuel at different temperatures) and the map has been enough to adjust slightly I don't know, what is everyone else's view? I think on the safe side I'm gonna all at once get the sensors changed then get the new cambelt kit on and water pump and get it retimmed, money is tight however, so any suggestions please?
