Hi guys,

Engine rebuild required and I have everything sorted apart from I can't decide wheather to go for a stroker kit to make is 2.0ltr or just stick with uprated rods and pistons.
If cost wasn't an issue would people go for the stroker kit?
Been informed by my garage that a stroker kit will make the engine oversquare which means it cannot be revved as much as just uprated pistons and rods.
I eventually want to push the car past the 400bhp mark so thought it would be a good idea to make the engine side larger but i'm not sure now.

Sounds logical to me.
If your desperately after more displacement, then machining the bores to accept oversize pistons would do it also. I think integrated engineering quote 2.1L as the most you can go to with oversize pistons and stroker crank.
Id go with the standard bore, with uprated pistons/rods, and spend the rest of the money on supporting mods to handle the 400bhp target.

1.8T can handle 400bhp+ just fine with uprated internals so no need for stroker kit. You'll need a Garrett GT2071 or bigger for 400bhp+ but as far as I know, apart from the usual BT extras like injectors, fuel pump etc you'll be good.

Stroker kit if you can afford it but it will be ££££ then it needs a proper turbo to match it 400bhp will be fine with rods and bam pistons on a 1.8t , I'm going for uprated ina rods there rated to 800bhp , then ferrea exhaust valves and standard bam pistons , have you bent a rod with the wot box ?
