Rite i have just had a new exhaust fitted today was driving the car about and noticed quite a loud kind of knocking or tapping sound when driving coming from the gear stick, handbreak area.
obviusly first thing i checked was the exhaust and its nice and solid gave it a good hard shake to try get it to knock but its well clear of anything. its only under load around the 2k rev range and pulling away somtimes.

the only other things i can think of is maybe the cat has collapsed. or a shaft or somthing from the gearbox maybe.?

Most likely its to close to the body and at the magic number its resonates and knocks. If you can get it up on a ramp and check. You will probly see where its hitting.

When your driving try and listen and pinpoint the knocking so you know where abouts to look under the car.

I took it back to the place who done it and we checked it on there ramp.
The noise is coming from right under where the handbreak and gearstick is.

got a couple more idea's on what this could be where you have the two brackets going under the exhaust by the middle section the exhaust is resting on the rear one on the rubber bit could this be the problem or is it ment to rest on it.?

custom job mate.
we checked for it hitting anything but couldnt make it do it by hand its a god distance away from the heatshield thats why im thinking it may be bouncing on the the rear bracket its resting on never done it with the standard system.

yea i no it sucks.
if i cant sort it out with the middle box in i will prob get him to take it out altho i dont no if that will make it to loud or not. its got to be the middle box knocking on sumin mite try and zip tie it down onto the bottom bracket and see if it still does it and if i can narrow it down atall.

I have the same prob after fitting my miltek turbo back, the only solution as I see it is to loosen the whole system and try again (thats why I havent bothered yet) and hopefully you havent used as much exhaust paste as I did:-(

I had similar, but fitted powerflex exhaust mounts, they are tighter than the originals and it has helped mine no end.

The old ones can stretch over time.

You need to get underneath it and get someone to rev it as the movement of the engine is whats making it knock, so you'l be able to see/hear where then.

The rubber bit on that bracket is there to stop it knocking but it shouldnt be resting on it

The other place to check for knocking is where it goes over the rear axel

:D:D:D haha im more happy than when i first held my daughter (well maybe not that happy but close) ive located where its knocking from its the middle box on the back bracket took it for a hard drive come back had a look and its only about 1cm away from it so has to be that.
so all i have to do now is get him to move it forward a bit then will see if he cam maybe weld and secure it so it cant move.
in the short term quick fix zip ties will do the job of holding it still.
but now im wondering should i just take it out. lol. what you recon.[B)]

My decat also hits the bottom of the car ever so slightly at that magical rev number. However as there is no bracket there I am not quite sure how I can solve that. Thought about giving it a good tug so the flexi bit below the turbo moves down slightly more?

No do not take off that bracket mate thats not the way to get around it. The only thing you can do is either take it back to where you got it done and get them to sort out the mistake they've made or find some way of sticking an exhaust rubber in between it so it doesnt knock on the bracket itself
