What is the max bhp and torque that the oem 1.8T headbolts and head gaskets are good for before you need to upgrade to ARP bolts etc. I'll be upgrading rods soon and don't wish to skimp but at the same time monies too tight to waste also.
I had run stock headbolts to close to 500bhp without problem..
when I fitted valves I changed to raceware studs, then after lifting the head with these (stretched them) I swapped to ARP bolts..
One new engine I am considering ARP studs.. if head fitment with manifold/turbo allows it
cheers guys, looks like stock bolts and gaskets will be more than adequate for me also.
Are the supertech inconel exhaust valves a sensible upgrade also even though it won't be a high rever (360bhp max), also can the exhaust valves be lapped in without stripping the rest of the head down.
How many hours extra would this put on a rod install. Do you think that turbos equipped with an egt probe / protection may not need the reassurance of the uprated exhaust valves or a sensible precaution none the less.
if heads off, I would personally look for a largeport haead, build that up ready and swap parts across..
its a few hours work to strip and reassemble head, if you have the right tools
