Starting problem - 1.6 16v

Got a problem with my 04 plate 1.6 16v. Starting from cold car starts normally then dies as though its stalled. It really judders as the revs drop off then just as its about to stop it catches, revs up to 1250 rpm and sits there. After this it drives normally and starting when warm always fires up first time and idles normally.

Anyone got an ideas what it could be that i can check myself?

Forgot to say I get no lights on the dash other than what is normally there until its started

I'm not very familiar with the 1.6 16v, but it sounds coolant temperature sensor related to me.

Didn't word the bit about the lights very well, the dash lights up as normal before during and after the start.

I'll see if i can get someone at work to check the coolant sensor for me. Plenty of leckies there to check it and figure out whether it should normally be showing volts or no volts!!!

Other than that any other ideas?
