so the minimum legal size for a stanard 7 digit plate is:

width: 460mm
(made up of 7x50mm for characters, 5x11mm spacing, 1x33mm spacing between groups and 2x11mm margin)
if you have a "1" in your plate you can reduce the total width by 36mm for each character of "1" you have.

min width for 6 digit plate: 377mm
5 digit: 316mm

height: 101mm
(made up of 79mm for characters and 2x11mm margins no matter how many characters you have)

overall thats:
460mm x 101mm (7 characters)

most standard plates come slightly bigger than that.
eg fancyplates are: 520mm x 112mm

although it does state 19mm between vertical lines...
one post of here says that for square plates, but surely that would be space between horizontal lines!

does it mean you need 11m between say W and G but 19mm between M and H?

rst_cupra_r your plate looks like my old one 3/4 sized, which is illegal, mine came from Fancyplates.com, std size rear though and have never been pulled with them

had them front and rear on the IMPREZA, got pulled 2-3 times a week for doing things like "driving with 2 hands on the steering wheel" or, "caught you with your rear screen heater switched on" and the best one " being in possession of an ugly passenger".

But never pulled or questioned about number plates

i dont think we have any police in halfiax anyway, they have all been replaced by speed cameras and speed bumps.
