took mine to the garage, they did the VAG com, replaced the spark plugs and replace 1 coil plug which had broke, all for £160
it drove great and was well chuffed, THEN coming home it happened again!!! :wtf:
is it better to change them all or go back and find out which 1 is broken again? is it common for this to happen after 1 has broke?

ya beat me to it then?
I got mine back today also...
1 coil pack gone, replaced and now sorted.

I asked about replacing them all at the same time and he assured me it would be fine to leave others in place as they are fine.
We shall see.

bad luck with another going on the way home buddy...

they saw you coming there didn't they.

once one coil starts to go, the others will follow (next to it) - plugs are about £40, coils are warrantee (still!)

You could have changed all 4 coils yourself (which will have fixed & future proofed the problem) for less than you've paid.

Some of us unfortunately have to go straight to garage as we may not know how to spot these problems or have vagcom to diagnose them, therefore have to trust who we take the car to.
A pisser sometimes as it will cost us more in the long run.
Each time something happens with my car though I learn from it and build up my limited knowledge of engines / mechanics.
I can now change a short shifter and the coil packs whahooohaaa!!

worth investing in vagcom mate... or getting friendly with a local with it... cant believe dealers charge what they do to plug a laptop in a socket a press go:censored:

glad you both got sorted;)

My coilpack went shortly after buying the car 2nd hand. The RAC dude replaced it for me, I went up the hill and it died again, they replaced it again (must of been a dodgy old one they had spare originally) and I haven't had any since. Must be a myth about one going, then all going...:)

I bought 2 spares and one is still sitting in the car untouched.

well when i got home on monday i went up the parts shop and bought 2 more coil packs as they only had 2 and not 3 to complete the set, so off i went and changed the 2 hardest ones, i know now how to do it after watching the garage do it the other day. i thought better change the 2 harder ones whilst it was light as the last one would be easy, so away i went and started to test them by connecting it whilst it was running, nothing happened so i though i must be doing something wrong, nether the less i changed the next 2 leaving only 1 left. started the car, NOTHING it was the same :censored: thinking just my luck it was the one i hadn't changed, i changed it with one of the old 1's i had just taken off, again nothing! then i realized that the one the garage put in was not sitting flush about 1mm higher. i tried pushing it down nothing, gave it a small tap with a hammer, nothing? changed the coil pack with one of the older 1's and bingo it worked fine, so i paid for 3 coil packs when i only needed 1 and when i took back the other coil pack i have to wait till jan to get my money back as i don't have the box, so it has to be sent back to the makers to be tested! the new ones i got were VW make at the same price as the 1 i got that was not. but happy now the car is working with 2 new coils, at least i got 1 spare
