20VT any problems regular short journeys?

Hi

Has anyone any experience of the effects of driving lots of short journeys in a 20vt? Is it likely to cause any problems?

I sold my Cupra but would like one again, but do a lot of short school run journeys during the week. Thought bout getting a Polo Tdi but why pay 6.5k when you can get an Ibiza for 5.5k! (False logic im sure)

Thanks
Tim

how short is short?

The TDI won't return good mpg on warm up, neither will the Ibiza - but generally short journeys where the car doesn't get warm will mean the oil is always running cool not offering the best protection - and will probably get a bit mayonaisey under the oil filler cap

Cheers

probably during the week 5 - 10 min journeys, with some longer runs on the weekend. I usually use Magnetec oil to assist with the running from cold etc

Fuel economy wise I was thinking the TDi would be much better? But ultimately I don't want to buy a turbo powered engine if the short trips during the week are going to cause problems? Would I be better off with a TDi or a smaller engined petrol car (that is my least favourite option!)

Thanks
Tim
