I didn't like the idea of taking that much off the paint ..... fine if it's the only time it is done, but heaven help the next owner of that car in a few years time - surely you've now got far less margin for correcting paint defects in the future?

If you're going to spend that kind of cash, why not take it to a bodyshop and get 2 or 3 more coats of clear on the top. At least that would give you a safety zone whilst still giving a mirror finish?

Or maybe i'm missing the point :s

That is the same amn who carried out the 5grand detail on a maserati *insert name here*12? £7.5 for the wax, refilled for life though. Bit anal for an astra too, no fun, i would just be worried about getting it dirty!! i like a clean car but bit much.

Fair play to the man, if he wants it done to that level. good to see some of the corsa boy are a mature bunch, guy cleans his car too much = gay. I cleaned my wheels twice in a week does that make me bisexual.

But how long will it all last? If he's that anal over a brand new car, imagine how gutted he will be when he gets his first big stone chip, or comes face to face witha gritter lorry!

I am all for a good detail job on a negelcted car or one that is a bit special, old or rare, but to do all that on a brand new car........? Plus it looks a bit crap with the rare blue interios and the wheels.........you can hardly see the difference, plus I bet they will corrode in a few months!

Waste of time and money IMO

what happen when he drives out of that garage through a puddle? same process again surely not? i agree with others - if the car is old or in bad need of a detail then sure - but to keep it like that is going to mean he will have to clean it every day! Pure madness

Finish will last 12 months with Royale, washing to keep it clean will take a lot less time and look good afterwards.

Lets also not forget, what was done here is no more or less than some have done on older cars, adept for lesser money but the owner is also protecting his investment, high grade carnauba does set like concrete and so offers protection from the elements, not stones though so the bodywork will last longer.

Removing up to 8mu, from a car with a normal 60mu clear coat thickness does sound a lot however if the car is well cared for and properly washed if this same job was booked next year I would expect to see no more than 4mu removed, the following year 3-4mu dropping by about 0.5mu a year there after so you can see, even in 5 years you will have removed less than 25% of the clear coat, how many people keep a car over 5 years? the paintwork will look as good as the day it was first looked after, therefore sell easier and hopefully more than most of its age, thus recovering some of the expense.

Lastly yep its an Astra, however and sorry for this no offence meant, but it could well have been a case of oh its only a Seat, or a VW, or a BMW etc the manufacturers name counts for nothing even a ferrari is only a ferrari it has 4 wheels an engine as does a Citreon 2CV :p

To have that done would cost about a grand I reckon.
And as you say it will last 1 year.....! So about twice hat his insurance costs!!

I bet if it were parked up with a load of others, all were polished up using off the shelf things at halford, 99% of people could not tell the difference. And they unfortunatley are the same people who will be his buyers come selling time, so they wont give two hoots about the one week detail when it was new!
They may care about the lurid blue leather though, and knock a grand off what it would be worth without!
each to theiur own though, but on a brand new car, its just a total waste and will show any damage he get on it worse than as stock!
I bet it ends up with some paintwork on it in the first year of ownership! He'll be gutted as soon as anything happens to it, then we will see how much the bodyshop enjoy the 12 month 7k wax on it when they try and blow ito a panel! Fisheyes, runs you name it! It'll all haveto come off then!
