SeaWeed all over my CupraR :(

Right so I was on the beech a few days ago, a beech that cars are allowed to drive on. Everything was grand, I was at the end of the beech. I decided to head home and to my horror I saw that between me and the exit was .... THE SEA!!!!! Argh, the tide had come in on one end of the beech and it was still coming in... so I decided to just go for it. I managed to get off the beech ok but I drove through a LOT of seaweed. It managed to get everywhere, even in the engine bay and around the suspension bits...

I managed to get a lot of it off the underneath of the car the next day but DEAR GOD it was smelly

I washed the car as much as I could including the underneath using hi powered jet sprays but a lot of the seaweed got into the engine bay:

I have gotten rid of a lot of it but I’m wondering about the salty water that has dried in... rust after a year or so??? I’ve heard of people washing their engine bays with steam jets or something??? has anyone got a clue where I could get that done.. or could I just get the hi powered water jet spray from the car wash n hit the engine with it? Ive never done this before so Im kinda clueless about washing under the bonnet

oh my giddy aunt! A pressure washer shouldn't trouble the engine too much, but its the electrics you need to avoid getting drenched. Having the engine running while cleaning is certainly advised. And try and bag or cover in plastic any sensitive electrics.

Do short directed blasts with the water, and let it drain way, dont go mad spraying it everywhere, and keep it away from places where the engine might injest water like the air intake etc.

Might be an idea to take the plastic ****/sump guard off from under the engine, as the water should drain off faster, and you wont get as mush spray back either.

Try taking as much of the trim as you can off such as the plastic sump gaurd, bumpers etc and give her a hose down

Just watch out for the seaweed getting caught in any belts, and also drying out and possibly catching fire! Its possible I guess.

Varsity mate of mine decided to take his fathers 3 week old BMW 333I (pretty rare car) for a play. This is while his folks were on holiday by the way. He figured because it had a limited slip diff though it would be okay on the beach, too many frosties at the barbeque, wakes up next morning to find the car up to the roof in the sea. 15 years later and I still laugh about it

Have you tried using Vanish fabric stain remover? I hear that's good for getting rid of tide marks.....
