Hi Dan
1. You can use the earth at the lights.

2. I routed the cable from the boot through the passenger side rubber gaiter then down and along/underneath the passenger side sill trims then up underneath the glovebox to the radio.

3. The 4 wires don't connect to the interface. They have writing on them I think as follows
1. Wasser= earth
2. Steady plus = permanent live not ignition
3. Can hi = can hi
4. Can low= can low
All wires can be found at the back of radio rns510 has a sticker on top listing all the wires.
Earth and a permanent live are easy. If the are no can hi or can low wires at the back of the radio then they can be found in the drivers footwell just above the wheel arch under the dash. These wires are usually twisted together so they should be easy to spot.
Please note: if extending the CAN wires you must use proper CAN wire and do not use scotch locks
Hope this helps

Cheers man,

The girlfriend found the tiny labels on the wires of the kufatec. By the end on Monday I had it all working with the ignition on but as soon as I started the engine the RNS would display the multi-colour striped screen for a few seconds then it would just return to the radio :censored: . Traced the problem back to the reverse light, I had to install a 12v relay with the reverse light as the trigger. Once the relay was installed the camera worked with the engine running :D . The only issue I have now is the image flickers around the edges (not so much that the image is distorted, just annoying). Anyone had this issue with reversing cameras?

I changed the way I wired mine i.e. reverse trigger as the first kufatec box turned out to be faulty. So mine is now wired through a canbus relay as used with towbar electrics.

I have finally finished. Here are a few pictures. Basically I followed the guide but made some changes at the facelift cars are a bit different.

I had to fit the camera further back due to the small badge size.

The servo had to be mounted to the boot due to lack of space around the metal housing of the badge.
I also added a 5 pin relay that cuts power to the boot motor when the car is in reverse allowing the badge to open up more.

Just like to say thanks again for the great guide :)

Very epic. As i have a spare FL badge i might aswell attempt this. Dan have you got a parts list for me/ anything different from the previously mentioned list?

Whats the roundabout price for it all? Ive not got an RNS so i wont need coding or canbus thingymajic adapter luckily.

My camera as previously mentioned is inside the top of the tailgate but needs moving

Very nice work guys

Part list is the same. The only thing I added was a 5 pin relay to stop the boot opening when the badge was lift up.

The badge will need to be heavily modified to get the camera to fit. After I cut away large amounts of plastic to get the camera to fit, the badge doesn't close completely stays open about 2mm. So you may want to try and find a smaller camera if there is one.

The most expensive items were the interface aka "canbus thingymajic adapter", which you don't need and the badge, which you already have. Depending on the items that you have already got or could find/borrow. Like I already had a servo but had to spend £9 on 150 springs as I didn't know what size I needed and that was the only quantity they came in. I would think £50 would get you going.

Can I ask you how you get power to your current camera? Mine flickers a bit and I think it's the way I power the camera.

Thanks.
With mine, the positive and negative are in the 3 pin connector for the reverse light. The three pins are reverse, sidelight, and ground. All i did was stick the cable in the back of the connector with the car in gear and the boot shut so the reverse bulb comes on. The ground is the pin which if you follow it, comes from the body of the bulb which acts as a ground. But im sure you knew that.

I ran my cable though a small rubber grommet on the top of the tailgate then fished it through the tailgate body via the loom sheath until it dropped down to the rear lights.

I couldnt find that 'bung' in the boot but i didnt need it really.

EDIT when i was messing around trying to find a permanent live (so the camera is on all the time, selected on screen by a button) i found some test points DID flicker. Maybe interference or lack of current

Seat emblem reversing camera

Hi all, not been on this site long but that is the best retrofit/DIY ive ever seen on any car. Amazing job lads, now i have a VW emblem reversing camera badge, would it be easier for me to try and split both the VW badge and the SEAT badge and try getting the camera to fit the SEAT badge do you know?

Originally I was going to buy the vw reverse badge but decided it was too expensive trying that route. Bit if you already have one then maybe that is your best option. I'm intrigued if you can make it work

Rns310 ? I did base this guide on the rns510 but I'm sure it's possible on others. Most of my research was done for my rns510. If I can help I will

I would say anything is possible. You'd need to look into it to see if you need a module or not.

In all honesty the electrical side of things with this confuse me but would love to have this mod. The vns unit has a camera feature and switches to this when reverse is engaged. Obviously just needs a camera connected. Think I would need a proper dummies guide
