Hello everyone,

Some time ago, I noticed that when the car is stationary and I slightly move the steering wheel, I hear an unusual knocking sound. Sometimes it's louder, sometimes quieter, but it's always there. One mechanic told me it could be the steering rack, so I went to a specialist who repairs steering racks, and he said he suspects the problem is with the tie rods or ball joints.

What do you think what could be the issue? Could it be related with the steering rack, or something else?

Thanks in advance!

There are a few joints in your front axle which could cause a knocking sound,
I would check your inner and outer tie rods first. Put your hand on each joint with someone moving the road wheel forwards and backwards and you should feel a clonk if they are bad. If they are all fine, move onto all the other joints in your suspension.
The rack would be my last item to look at as they are very expensive!
