Hey guys I'm looking for a bit of info on fitting a HID kit to a mk1 leon. Looking at a 55w 6000k H7 kit just need some help first. I've seen people say you shouldnt install HID's without projector lens how does this work on the mk1 leon with no projectors? Also I'm just getting the dipped beams done is there anything I should know before I go ahead and do it? I know I need to drill a 25mm hole in the back of the headlight covers and mount the ballasts and then get a readjustment after that. Thanks.

Just go for the H7R type bulbs which are designed to be used with reflector type headlights like ours.
I've been running a set of 4800k 35W H7R in mine since last October with no problems.

Very easy. I fixed the offside ballast to the washer bottle and nearside ballast sits inside the headlight cover beside the battery.
All wiring is literally plug and play .
You'll need to drill a hole in each headlight cover which is simple enough then the grommet just pulls though into place.
The fiddliest bit is locating the bulb retaining clip after inserting the HID bulb as you need to take it off instead of folding it aside due to the cable into the new bulb.

I had HID in mine with the H7R but the light output was so bad I had to switch back to halogen. Anyone experiencing this?

Strictly speaking hid kits without self levelling washers and projectors is illegal your dipped will most likely be brighter than your full beams aswell

Mot is passable dependent on the mot tester and the beam pattern which might come out correctly due to the lamps reflectors being smaller than my previous car running hid kits but i was pulled for them and told to remove them they actively looked for the digital balasts under my bonnet only reason the car didn't get taken was due to the fact they were on the slam panels beneath parts so they couldn't actually see them to say they were hids they could only say it from the light output

Mines wasn't mot'd in the time they were fitted so I can't comment on the mot side of things as I say it's down to the light pattern if it passes or not
