can i buy a fob key off ebay and programme it myself there are fobs on ebay for £25 and ive found instuctions on how to fit it can a random seat fob work with this method as ive only got 1 key and how much would it be to get the key cut?????

Remote Control Programming (1997 ON)

1. Switch Ignition ON and leave the key in the ignition.

2. Mechanically lock the vehicle using the Drivers door using a second key.

3. Using the remote control press the Unlock button once, and the horn will sound once.

4. Wait 6 seconds and press the unlock button once to activate the coding procedure. The remote control will now be programmed.

NOTE : When performing programming on additional remotes the procedure is the same, except you press the unlock button 2, 3 or 4 times for the different remote.

For example : If programming 2 remotes press the unlock button twice with a 1 second interval between each press, repeat for 3 and 4 remotes.

5. Switch Ignition OFF.

6. Remove key from ignition and check for operation.

7. The coding procedure can be repeated up to 4 times for additional remotes.

8. The ignition must be switched OFF between programming each remote control.

Remote Control Erasing (1997 ON)

1. Switch Ignition ON and leave the key in the ignition.

2. Mechanically lock the vehicle using the Drivers door using a second key.

3. Press the remote control unlock button 5 times in 1 second intervals. A short horn will sound.

4. Wait 6 seconds and press the unlock button once to activate memory erase.

5. Switch ignition OFF, all remotes are now erased

I tried the key offf ebay with the same instuctions the horn never went off and only prgrammed the remote/alarm and not the imobiliser has nay one got an update

The immobiliser chip can only be programmed by a dealer or with VAG-COM if you get the dealer to give you the SKC - wouldn't be very secure otherwise!

I have been looking at the flip key on ebay....is there a guide to re-program to your car?? cos I fancy a flip key and the fact I only have one key too

Right I think I may have got myself a flip key....What else do I need to do and need to make it work?

I only have 1 key for my LCR which is a remote one - Lock/unlock functions will I need to take this apart for parts??

As my previous post - you will need a SEAT dealer to program the immobiliser chip for you or you will need them to give you the SKC and then find someone with VAG-COM who can program the immobiliser for you.

You will also need a locksmith to cut the key blade obviously

Took the transponder out of my spare key, put it in the flip key, programmed it as above (this lets you lock & unlock the doors) - then got the blank blade cut for £4.

Think it cost me £20 all in, as I had to buy spare blank blades & a key logo (1st cut didn't work so used a different key cutter).

He'd need the transponder out of a "spare" key though - alternatively, you can get a virgin transponder, and code it using VAG COM (but you'd need the SKC code)

There should be a transponder in that fob and non-programmed.
However the seller might know. The dealer might give the SKC code if asked.
abbo you can then ask in the Vag com section for anyone local to help you out with immob coding.

I have just spoken to a Seat dealership about coding an old Skoda key i've got, he said that they work on different frequencies and that it might not work with my car. Any ideas if this is true?

Key is from a 2004 Skoda Superb tdi, i have a 2005 Seat Leon Tdi

I think it needs to be 433or 434 mHz -you'd have to check what the Skoda one is

the transponders are all the same there are lock smiths out there that will supply a vw/skoda flip key cut and programmed not the remote just the transponder. i got one for £90 last year. its best to look at the key you have and match the frequency as it depends on the car weather it will accept the 433 and 434 some do and some dont. i have a 2001 cupra and it wont take a 434 key only the 433.

keys that are 2 button and will work on 433 end with an A or N in there part number A is vw and N is skoda there pretty rare to find but you can get them for about 30-40 on ebay when they are about.

Taken my old key fob apart and its a 434 mhz, and my current key is a 433. how do i get round this
