Screeching noise

I have done the searches and found nothing helpful, when i start the car from cold about 10/30 seconds later i get a loud screeching noise like a belt slipping , the last time i was standing in front of the car with the bonnet up, it was very alarming, then it just stopped, i know its not the secondary air pump...as i took it off, the car drives fine and is boosting at 10psi so dont think its the turbo, the car is also lumpy/ juddery in the mornings dont know if this is connected to the screeching, has anyone had this happen to them? any suggestions welcomed.... (related to the car that is)

Glad to hear it! I cant stand being blinded by someone up my @rse with their fogs on or coming at you, when its not even foggy. Though Jeeps have to be the worst!!

Mine also does let out a screech at about that time for about 2secs, so we were wondering what it could be too. Dont know if its been causing any problems, but since changing my MAF sensor today for other reasons the car seems to be running perfect (again, touches wood lol).

It can only be explained like a loud high-pitched screech (eeeee) sound, like a belt slipping. Doesnt last long at all, then I usually dont hear it again that day so it must be to do with the car being cold.

Starter motor my 1.6 used to have exact same problem.. would only happen when cold for a second or two. New starter motor fixed it. Apparently its because its not disengaging fast enough causing belts to slip, not healthy in the long run either..

Oh right that sounds logical, although the last time the sound started a good 10/15 seconds after the car started, in fact i started the car walked back round to the front of the car and a coupe of seconds later it did it for 5/6 seconds and then stopped does this sound the same.

mine was about £100

but maybe change the AUX belt first.. for the sake of a few quid it rules that out

did you get to the bottom of this... I am having the exact same problem...screech like belt slipping for 2-3 secs 10/30 secs after starting AND lumpy juddery when started. Only from cold though. Did you still hear the noise and have the running prob after taking the air pump off cos I was going to look at that?

Mine is still doing it but it stopped during the summer, but i know what it is now its the air con no screech when car started but when air con switched on screeeeech then quiet again, can anyone shed any light on this

hmm, i might try to record the sound tommorow on my phone and post it up! Think it could just be because of the cold weather?
