Hi, i was wondering what is the best scratch remover for my car? The scratches are light and only some can barely be felt with my finger nail. I have tried Autoglym Paint Restorer which Auto Express claims to be the best, but i found this to be rubbish (seems like it is just Super Resin Polish to me!)

Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated!

by hand you're going to struggle, light swirl removers (megs 2, Poorboys SSr is all i use) with a DA polisher will take most scratches out,

never been a fan of AG paint restorer, its too unpredictable, some paints it'll do nothing, some it'll strike through the clear coat in no time,

usually if you can catch it with your nail, you'll struggle to remove it all, the otheres will come out no problem

you'll be surprised at what AG super resin can do, try concentrating on one scratch with that for a bit,,

the other option is to try farecla G3 on a damp rag an work at the scratched area( but be careful its a harsh compound), but it will need polishing up after,

Thanks for your help, is there any place i could go where they would do this sort of work? I dont want to buy an orbital polisher and have to learn how to use it just because of some annoying scratches

put a shout out on here, im sure you'll have some detailers local that'd be glad to sort it out for you, :)

a DA polisher isnt critical to remove a few scratches, it'l just make the job a bit easier for you,

try a bit of g3 paste by hand with a bit of water, then polish up with super resin polish, you'll get somewhere close, just be patient with it,

ive know just SRP on its own over a period of 6 month transform paintwork before,

What is g3? (sorry i am not the best when it comes to products for cleaning the car). SRP will do this? i am using it just now, in fact i used it for my second time yesterday its brilliant stuff!

Faracla G3 is a compound, (purely a very fine abrasive) its used in bodyshops as a finishng paste, one step closer to getting a perfect finish,

but its also good for scratch removal,

http://www.sailboats.co.uk/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=FG34

ignore the price, it can be had for about £6

Out of all the stuff ive used, i always find SRP has the best finish for what it its, it'll also hide small scratches hope this helps!

I had a whole load of scratches on my rear bumper. I got a drill mounted polishing pad and some SRP, and just went over it three or four times. It's come out absolutely spot on, with no scratches visible, and only one that can be felt. It would have taken an age by hand though.

Interesting! Where do you get these parts that attach to a drill?

Thanks Slimy, think i will give this a try, after all it is only to remove the scratches, not to give the car a full detail!

This is what I got;

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=400116806384

Obviously the sanding discs got binned straightaway! No doubt some more knowledgeable detailers would frown at that, but it worked fine for me. I just kept the drill speed really low and kept the sponge moving over the car.

this is one thing with detailing, too many people are critics, there isnt a right and wrong way, if it works, do it, ive picked up what ive known by using mates and my own car as guinea pigs over the past 3-4 years,

yeah halfords should stock it, anywhere like a motosave or bullseye too,

I'm with the bloke on the G3... the Farecla stuff really is magic. It smarted the bonnet on my old Octavia up I decided I no longer needed a new bonnet!

G3 is strong, but you can also get G10 which isn't as strong or abrasive, but still does a good job.

As for where to get the G3/G10... try the following link for Farecla stockists in your area.

Hope this helps,
Chris
