Hi jb

I had mine back to a couple of dealers with the problems on the other thread. The result was that its down to the engine trying to self clean the DPF which needs to get to 500 degrees to burn off the soot and stop it blocking up. In order to achieve this the engine does a post injection of diesel which causes the exhaust gas to get hotter and this is accompanied by increasing the idle speed slightly. Unfortunatly this process also causes rough running/idling, noisey running and slight loss of power. That was basically what the technical boss at the dealers told me. But i should get it booked in and have it checked just to make sure all is well, and to see if any other dealer has a different view of the probs.

Interesting richi. So a good blast in the car would do good things to the dpf I would have thought.

It's good to remember that as a lot of commute driving is stop start and may not be great for the dpf.

REALLLY!!!! VErrrrrry inttresting, could have been communicated better, ie, in the manual, but .......

It does make sence aswell, think i'll have to do some testing. ie give it a good hiding every week at least once.

does anyone else get a strange burning smell when this happens? we do, its getting less and less when it happens, so maybe just some "burning" in

It does mention in the handbook that if the dpf light comes on to take the car for a decent drive to clear the dpf. The tech at the dealers also told me that the dpf light only comes on if the car has not managed to clean it out by 2 self clean cycles. Lots of short stop start runs will cause the dpf to fill up due to the necessary temps not being reached.

 On a different note greytop could you post a few pics of ur car as i havent seen one in that colour yet and from your thumbnail pic wish i'd have gone for it instead of emoc red.

Yer i read that in the handbook, but it dosent say what the symtoms will be, and they are the worrying bits really, if they said that when its cleaning itself it will sound like a 20yr old transit van and will make you feel giddy id have totally understood the problem, as it is, after getting the car on launch day and having it happen a couple of times I really didnt want to have to go and loose the beast to them for investigations.

But now i think i have some piece of mind, only the dash rattle bugs me now, oh and the blatant lie about 2 lighter sockets in the FR!! that still niggles at me, and i dont even smoke when in the car!!
