just seen you got your INA manifold mate

best of luck with it, it should sort out all the problems you have had of recent

what are you going to do with your JBS mani?

Cheers mate - got it sat next to me on my desk now (had a few weird looks at work!)

I'll get some pics up later with this week's update. I'm not sure where I stand with JBS as I bought the manifold second-hand from Chris Curzon but believe they are covered by a lifetime warranty?

Mike has previously agreed to swap my manifold for one of their new cast designs when they arrive in stock but that's not much use to me anymore...

Day 15

This week we pretty much finished off trimming the centre bars and side vents off of my bumper to accommodate the intercooler with some mesh - choosing to use some black plastic RGM ME2 Competition mesh that used to available in Halfords (ordered through Demon Tweeks).

I wanted something that looked as OE as possible as I can no longer use the standard mesh and this matches the top honeycomb grill pretty well, though I'm not 100% convinced whether I prefer it with or without the mesh fitted - decide for yourselves and let me know your opinion :)

In the end we had to take another 10-15mm off of the centre bars in order to get the bumper to sit right while leaving enough clearance for the mesh, leaving them at ~25mm thick.

First fit of the mesh before any trimming:

In order to fix the mesh firmly in place we first stuck it over the pegs that protrude from the back of the bumper (shown above) before using the following sticky-back plastic tabs which we'll later feed some tie wraps through the middle of to hold the mesh tight against the bumper:

These proved to be the perfect dimensions to hide away behind the bumper and inside what is now left of my centre bar :)

All stuck in place:

I'm yet to get hold of some mini tie wraps to fix the mesh in place but we decided to mock it up on the car to see what it now looks like with and without it fitted, et voila:

As mentioned above my INA manfold arrived this morning along with a couple more new goodies, including some genuine Porsche metal centre caps for my D90s (planned for use as summer/show wheels) and an 034 Motorsport carbon fibre coil cover :D

These wheels have been sat in my garage since Jan 08 now but I'm planning on sending them away shortly to be refurbed with diamond cut lips and anthracite powdercoated faces to give the following finish (shamelessly stolen from the web):

Here's a very quick photoshop to give some idea of how they may look:

As they are at the moment:

I'll be running 7.5J at the front and 8J at the rear (ET52) with H&R Trak+ adaptor spacers

Day 16

Not a major update tonight but at long last we started bolting things back onto the car rather than keep taking them off - concentrating on the turbo and manifold for now :)

As with Benny's Kinetic and JB's INA manifolds (both from the states) I had to grind ~2mm from the top flange face where the bolt holes sit in order for it to clear the head properly. Not a major job and something I had already anticipated we would need to do after Bill highlighted this to Issam when fitting Jamie's same manifold - see http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=179656&page=8

Here you can see how the stud holes actually line up properly with the gasket this time, which was more than could ever be said for the JBS manifold:

Fitted to the MD445:

Really wish I'd never ground anything off of the silencer for the JBS manifold now as the extra clearance isn't needed here but that's life I guess.

The only thing Bill happened to highlight with this particular manifold is that while it has larger ports than the Kinetic it does not have a merge deflector at the collector, meaning that the gases from cylinders 1 and 4 collide with other before entering the turbo - not the most efficient design but I can't see it making a real world difference (I hope at least). This is where the JBS collected design comes up trumps.

P1000676.jpg

Notice the deflector in the standard manifold:

P1000668.jpg

The fact that I haven't heard of any of these manifolds cracking yet has to be the major selling point for me as once it's on there I don't want to be removing it again a few weeks/months later.

AFTER bolting the turbo onto the manifold and offering it against the head we realized that with this particular manifold where the turbo studs are nice and accessible it would be much easier to bolt them onto the car separately, allowing more access to the turbo coolant and oil lines.

Once the turbo was in place we just had a good tidy up in preparation for cracking on again tomorrow. Here's how she looks at the moment - still a long way to go but at least now we're heading in the right direction :D

As always, thoughts/comments welcome :)

Day 17-18

OK some good progress over the past couple of days, with things generally feeling much more positive at last :) I'll let the pics do most of the talking in this update.

With the turbo bolted firmly in place we were now ready to get the INA manifold fitted on top:

The moment I'd been waiting for...one fitted manifold (locking tab yet to be secured):

P1000686.jpg

P1000687.jpg

With this in place we then concentrated back on my bumper by getting my RGM mesh fastened into place using an abundance of tie wraps, secured through the tabs we'd previously stuck to the back :)
