Reverse light

Are you sure it's a 15A fuse solely for the reverse light?

That's a 55W lamp IIRC, so at 12V that's only capable of pulling 4.6A - it makes no sense for it to be fused up to 15A surely?

I did wonder, but thats what the manual says, P3.69 if you want to have a look. seat might have not included some of its other functions I suppose.

I thought I'd write up the installation of parking sensors on the new Leon for those that are contemplating it. All in all it took around 4 hours, although once I know what I'm doing it should take about half that !

ok well similar thing ive mounted a parking camera and screen in my leon mk2 1P. it owrked ok for a few days i also found out the hard way about the blue black grey/black wires, the wire u think it would be is actually for the rear fog light it baffled me for ages untill i thought i would test all the lights untill i get a reading.anyway now when i revers the relay unit buzzes away like its on fire ie it keeps swithing very fast and i dont know why.the rear light wont come on atall now even once ive reset the dashboard fault light. so i have no reverse light atall with or without the unit hooked up. the strange thing is the reversing camera will work with the car turned off and into reverse but when the engine running it will make a buzzing sound on the relay and wont operate the camera or screen properly.

does anyone have any idea as my waranty ran out 2day and its just come out the garage and they wont look at it bewcause i have modifed it.lol

PLEASE HELP i do know alot about electronics but just dont know what the hell is wrong with this as it was working fine for a few days. the relay is fine i tested it and used another to double check.the screen is ok as it works ok when the engine is not running and the same with the camera. but no reverse light atall, bulb is ok even tried clearing the DTC's (fault codes cleared) but as soon as i put it in reverse the fault light comes up again

i recnetly fixed the reverse light on my girlfriends ibiza, i traced it down to a cut wire behind the passenger side headlamp, bit of shrink wrap, solder and few 3rd degree burns later...all fixed

Been searching for a while on the forums and this seems to be the best one so far...

Bought my Ibiza last weekend and noticed the reverse light was out when leaving the car park at work (not when looking to buy...). So off I pop to the car shop today. Bought a bulb to replace it. Still no joy. Out comes the meter... Checked the fuses - number 19 looks and tests good. The bulb tests good too. I've looked down onto the gear box from within the car and cannot see anything plug or cable like apart from one leading to the cig lighter and that looks to be connected just fine.

I looked in over and past the engine from the front and could not see anything that appeared to be loose or disconnected. I will admit to not being a car expert, but I can spot a loose wire...

I've changed a rear (off side) light that was also gone and that is now working fine. I did get excited when I checked the boot light that also wasn't working and found the power connection wasn't plugged in. Thought it may have closed a loop - but no joy. Still no reverse.

The meter did pick up an anomaly with the reverse light cluster connection. From the male end coming from the car to the cluster, the bottom connection is not giving a reading when connected in a pair with either of the other two connections. Do I really have to faff with the wiring loom or is there a faulty switch somewhere that I can check, clean or replace?

So 7 days of ownership and I have an unsolvable issue.

Any help and pictures appreciated!

PS: If it helps it's a 2003 Seat Ibiza 1.9TDi Sport.

Impossible to see if the fuses have blown IMO, they are so close to the door hinge it is ridiculous you have you head in the door hinge trying to look!!

whats wrong with the good old fashion take the fuse out and check :cartman:

Using my Ibiza Owner's Manual (07.02) - from page 3.68, I knew where to locate the fuses. Pop the plastic panel off. Next page...

Page 3.69 lists each fuse, it's amp rating and its location. With the door wide open and a small torch I could read the position numbers next to the fuses. They are small but they are there.

Position 19 - Reverse light.

I used a meter on the bulb, the fuse, the connections that lead to the light cluster and the connections that the fuse spans. The bulb and the fuse registered fine! No reading at the fuse location nor from the bottom point of the connector that plugs into the back of the cluster though.

I read where to locate the reverse switch before I started all this but I could see nothing once I'd popped up the gater and the sponge ring that was down there.

The only thing down there that looked like electric connections was the cable leading to/from the cig lighter. Unless I'm not recognising what I'm supposed to be looking for. Hence the request for pictures.

Cheers for the suggestions. Gonna have another look tomorrow. I just hope it's not loom related...

The reverse light switch is located on the top of the gearbox. It is easier to view from underneath.

lift the car and support on stands. Remove the undertray. now laying under the car with your feet pointing out the front of the car, your left side will be nearest or under the gearbox.

There is a black plastic clip and the switch it's self mounts in to the GB houseing - right below the gear selectors.

The part is about £8 from the dealer.

I will have a look through my clutch fitting photos and see if the reverse switch is in any of them.

This pic shows it all from above standing at the passenger side of the engine bay.

you have the gear selector cables connecting to the gear selector. Now the reverse switch is below where the selector mounts to the GB and in the pic is to the left of the engine mount (with the white sticker on)

I worked out how to add an arrow to what i'm talking about.

Hope it helps.

Usually when the reverse light fails on ibizas it only tends to be the models with the 5 speed boxes because the wires were made slightly too short from the factory and the wires is broken directly at the switch which you can view from the underside of the car - the switch is right at the front of the box.

MT Ibiza - Thanks for the pic.

I was getting the wrong end of the stick (inexperience) and asked a friend with far more knowledge to help me on Sunday. Located the switch you indicated in your pic. Disconnected, cleaned, sprayed, cleaned and reattached.

All working fine now! Tested the connection first by bridging the gap with a wire to see that the loop was good. Reverse light lit up so the switch was at fault. I thought it would prob need replacing as there is nothing to it so not much to go wrong. But, after a clean and popping back on - all was functioning as it should.

Case closed (I hope!).
