removing standard rear speakers

i have a 2000 cupra. and i want to remove the standard rear speakers, and replace them with better ones.. problems..

how do i get the old ones out.? .....
there like fixed from underneath with some wierd copper nuts on a plastic moulded thread, which when i try to undo they just ruin the plastic thread.
shall i just cut the plastic thread and let the speaker drop down?

after taking the speakers out sumhow!! wots the best way people have found to fix new speakers in?

what size are the original speakers... are they 3x6? i cant really tell??

and last thing... has ne1 fitted 6x9 back in ?

Rear speakers are 6" x 4" oval. They are awkward to get out I used long nose pliers and a deep socket. Use the pliers to twist and pull down at the same time. I then used the same fittings to put the new speakers in.

If you want 6" x 9" speakers then get a stealth parcel shelf and fit them to this. 6" x 4" will never giver you the same bass as 6" x 9"s.

ive replaced mine in the back, but tbh its almost pointless and of course the standard head unit has the power of a hamster!

tbh its not worth removing the standard speakers, you mite as well just tap a set of 6x9s off them and stick em in a stealth shelf (the standard shelf is shite!). ive recently put some in mine and i think they sound great, its suprising how much power the standard headunit can kick out.

subs takes up to much boot space(golf clubs would never fit...lol) - going to mount the amp to the underside of parcel shelf and purchase a stealth shelf/cut it myself job for speakers -

deffo go DIY! i got my mdf for £10 and acoustic carpet for £8. a saving of about £60 over the "stealth shelves" you buy off the shelf from halfrauds, ect.

one of my standard 6x4's was broken when i got the car so i replaced them with jbl 6x4's 45wrms 120 peak (i think)

i fitted mine back in with the same copper nuts and yeah its a absolute B!TCH trying to get them on/off

Long nose plyers and deep socket are a must for this else your gonna have really bad blisters on your fingers
