i dunno but how many black cupra's in farnborough are there to check when next in an accident?

I declare all, especially the remap, youll be stuffed when you get screwed over for trying to hide it (even though youve just spread on a car forum your considering not declaring it)

i wouldnt bother tbh, its alot less blatent than all the kids driving around in mums suped up nova

if anything was to happen, i.e insurers take the car away for some repair id prob let em take it as is, but even if i did get a little worried...theres always an SPS near by i can use to switch it off

one of the many perks of having revo

it may be off but its still there fella!
To be honest i too dont think a insurance would be able tell if it is mapped but i cant afford another 15K IF the worse was to happen and they refuse to pay!! so for the sake of £40ish quid i will be tellin them about it!

yeah but the point is

firstly. driving it, theyd have no reason to suspect its remapped and therefore wouldnt question it
secondly. they dont have the technology to just plug in and have the ecu tell them its revo'd

obviously i might be abit more cautious if they were doing something to the ecu but why would they! which is back to the previous points...they wouldnt know its there and wouldnt really have an means of checking its there

Flash I havent said im considering not declaring it, to be fair I havent even had it done yet. Im just asking peoples opinion. I just cant believe you can justify a 100% increase on an insurance premium when I can insure something like an S3 with more BHP than mine will be even with a remap for only £200 more??

I know this has been explained but it still seems stupid to me

Because its down to you to know, if you insure the car as standardQUOTE]

Like it has been said before if it looks standard the insurance company isn't going to bother checking every part on the car to prove you wrong. Insurance companies are not going to bother reading car ECU`s for remaps since it is not cost effective. You the customer is asked is there any modification if there are none to be seen and the car has only had a remap that you where not told about then how are you going to be able to tell them even though they are not going to check for a remap in a car anyway.Even if a remap is found by billion to one chance unless they can date when it was done how are they going to prove you had it done or know it had been done? If a car that looks totally standard has been in an accident do you think they are going to take it out on a road an go for a test drive or VAG COM it ? Come on get real !

They dont have to prove that you knew, If you insure the car as standard, and it aint standard and they find this, then they can , and have invalidated insurance!

They are looking to do anything not to pay out.

I'm not doing this for an argument, im making a statement.

Invalid insurance is illegal, so why bother getting insurance at all?

Surely if you are buying a 'Performance Car' like the Ibiza Cupra or an LCR you would know if it has been remapped? If someone was to VAG COM it then they will probably only see that it has been remapped if they really know how to use VAG COM, wont they?

I agree with Forbez, we are given Insurance to protect ourselves and our cars, what is the point in not declaring things to save money? Like he said if you dont declare it then you may as well not be insured!

Surely by not declaring it you are admitting that you cant really afford to have the mod in the first place, so you should not bother getting it!

My dad was in the Police as a Traffic Sergeant for 30+ years and from things he has told me its just not worth risking it! For the sake of £250 or your car/life i think its worth getting it to be honest

Some may think im being melodramatic but shedding out a bit more money for a new toy is part and parcel of owning a 'higher spec' car!

Ok this is getting very heated! My statement was it will cost me £900 to declare it, so if its a case of yes I should I wont get it done as I have no intention of doubling my insurance I will just go out and buy a faster standard car! lol

Well cant really afford to loose that much cash off my present policy to open a new one! Maybe I should hunt for a Cupra R ecu lol

I have to say mine is standard and it keeps up with loads of cars! You could just wait for a bit for the remap and get some other mods in the mean time?

TBH I cant really afford any flippin mods coz it costs £150 to declare anything even remotely modded!

Yeah we couldnt work out what it was running! I had it put on the Rolling Road and its running 157bhp & 176lbs but IIRC that is 1lb more than a standard Leon Cupra so with the weight and size difference with the Leon Cupra im not surprised mine is quick ;)
