remap a 1.4 FR ACT

I have searched the forums for more info about this but got some specific questions hope you folks can help with

On the 148BHP (150PS) 1.4 ACT is it best to wait until the car has done at least 20k thousand miles before considering a remap? That was the advice I used to hear in the old days of remapping. Years ago when I had my vRS mk1 fabia I bought a box from Viezu and had it remapped to about 180BHP and 370nm of torque. Went like a rocket and was absolutely reliable. Still going strong after 125k miles on same clutch. Have heard remapping petrol engines is a lot more calculating and not every tom **** and harry can do it these days due to the complex nature of modern engines


I'm after a good reliable remap which won't mess up the engine, clutch, plays nicely with cylinder deactivation technology, gearbox or be too much for the stock brakes.

The 1.4 (150ps) with COD (as Audi calls it) A.K.A EA211 is notoriously bad for remapping whether u take the tuning box or specialist RR avenue. Weakest links being gearbox and clutch. This is why nobody does it and if they have then it usually messes up their cars and like the big fat elephant in the room they choose not to discuss it.

The 1.8 however is a completely different beast with a better gearbox and it doesnt have that god awful ACt or COD thing which gets screwed up after remap.

I was not intending to have it rolling roaded or a tuning box installed. Do you know the limits of the gearbox?

stay away from tuning boxes .definite no no in my experience.Especially the likes of TDi tuning in Essex. In the words of max Thayer they wouldn't know the difference between a "blender and a rotar". the gearbox constitutes many different smaller components each with a slightly different rating, You will find the vast majority of smaller parts are rated to 250 to 270nm.This is why a remap would be utterly silly as any "performance remap" would go fat beyond that.

I've had a cheap as chips racechip installed on my manual 1.4 since about 3k miles. The difference in performance is night and day. I've had no issues with it to date and I'm now on 11k miles.
For me it was the best compromise between value and performance. Mine is a lease car with <18 months left to run so I didn't want to end up with a sunk cost. Even if I can't resell the box wheny lease ends I will probably use it on my next car as I'm in love with this engine. Worst case I bin it...... It only cost me around £130.

ACT works fine. I think as long as you are sensible and don't turn up the settings to be too extreme you should be fine.

I've run various tuning boxes on cars over the last 15 years without issue. I don't thrash my cars but do find the mid range performance boost it gives very useful.

Racechips looks a bit amateurish and mickeymousish. No bhp/torque curve. Wheres the proof they ran a stock Leon 1.4 on a rolling road setup and then remapped it and ran the test again. Instead they post generic gains with exact values like +20BHP and +50NM. Clearly this is just guess work. No CLEAR mention of what fuel these supposed gains were tested on either

I was speaking from a personal perspective..... Forking out £400+ for a custom remap on a lease car is not worth it for me. Maybe the Op has different circumstances to mine......almost certainly and therefore feels differently. This set up works just fine for me and I was just sharing my experience of using racechip.

I have my 1.4 150 remapped to 180 and 210-220ibft I believe, I wouldn’t suggest going any higher, I know two lads who got a revo map and their turbos went bang and another lad I know had his taken to 210 and 270ibft of torque and his gearbox shattered, so far mines been fine.

Hello all im looking at getting a remap, (revo stage 1) im just curious if anyone has had an issues with the cylinder cut off post remap and that is somthing id like to keep working , as I spent a long time looking for this specific engine type, thanks in advance
