Rattling Noise Rear Right / Left Rattle CUPRA LEON MK4

Hello Guys, Hope you can help me with a rattle that drives me crazy.

I’ve been experiencing a loud rattling noise from the rear / right door, both very annoying, it always comes up, specially when driving on uneven roads, at least that where I notice them from.

See video I posted on reddit, hopefully the rattling is noticeable to you, wind hides it on video, I record the front side but I'm sure it comes from the back.

I’ve seen formentors experiencing similar noises, either on threads here on Reddit and forums online.

I would really appreciate any advice, I’ve been to my nearest Cupra Garage, unfortunately the tape they put around the doors was no solution, no other Cupra garage is near me unfortunately.

My best guess is something is loose under the door panels, I would appreciate any orientation or if someone has already solved the issue if experienced it.

Hope you guys have more info on what the origin of the rattle is.

Thanks for the advice.

Are you sure the source of the rattling noise is actually from the rear doors? Locating the source of unwanted interior noises can be notoriously difficult, especially if you’re trying to do it yourself while driving. A common source of unwanted cabin noise in many VAG cars that’s reported on many forums is the rear seat backrest latching mechanism. Because of its proximity to the rear doors, if that’s the source of the rattling noise in your car it’s possible it sounds as if it’s coming from the doors.

I had this issue with a mk6 VW Golf I owned some years ago and an effective DIY fix is to wrap some anti-squeak / anti-rattle tape (or even electrical insulating tape) around the metal loop that the rear seat backrest latches onto when in the upright position; the tape removes any free play between the two parts of the latching mechanism so stops unwanted rattling noises - that’s assuming the latching mechanism is the source of your problem. The loop and latch are at positions ‘A’ and ‘B’ in the picture below (it’s a mk3 Leon ST in the picture, but the latching mechanism should be the same in other Seat / Cupra - and other VAG cars). If the tape wears away over time through repeated raising and lowering of the rear seat backrest, then it’s quick, cheap and easy to replace.

Thanks for the advice, took the car out with backseats down, so no contact in the rear seats latching mechanism, the rattle was still there, so my guess its not that.

My perception is the pillar that holds the seatbelt, perhaps the rattle is from elsewhere, any other suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
