questions about my 1.4 TSi

In fairness the wikipedia article says it's turbo & super charged but then goes on to say

"In 2007 Volkswagen announced the 90 kW model which will replace the 1.6 FSI 115 hp (86 kW) engine. This engine differs from the 103 kW and 125 kW models in several ways. It is turbocharger only and has water-cooled intercooler to reduce charge time. The engine has reduced frictional losses, optimized camshafts, new intake port and new high-pressure injector valves. It is also 14 kg lighter than the 125 kW model, all to improve fuel economy and reduce emissions."

It's the 90kw engine in the leon (hence no supercharger)

Anyway, it's all irelevant if I'm getting about the same economy as all you cupra drivers....

Did another 16 mile drive this morning (all sensibly driven on A-roads with light traffic) and got 29mpg..

My old polo (1.9 tdi) which I sold to get this got more than double that.... I know it's not the same car but this is pretty lousy on the economy front. Time to go back to the dealer I guess.

I very rarely get less than 35MPG and that's driving it fast. If I drive like a Granny it gets around 45MPG.

Where can you get a remap on the 1.4 TSI?

I have PM'd Dave.C and the company I would use is AMD Technik based in Surrey or Essex only because I have had prior dealings with them on a Fabia vRS. It took it from 130bhp to circa 175bhp with an increase in torque of around 40-50ftlb.

I was informed they can reprogram the ECU but ideally I would like something like I had on the Fabia called the AMD oneclick that you upload the MAP via the OBD2 port so you can switch between the 2 maps (Sport \ Standard) with a push of a button, however because VW lock the ECU up now this is proving difficult or so I was told.

As to the MPG I am seeing 45mpg on a good run and hopefully this will go up with a few thousand miles on the clock.

thanks for the reply and also the pm mate, the first mod for the car will be a remap and if it means traveling from south wales to AMD technik to get that switch sort am more than willining to make the travel and wait for it to be done. it sounds very good and ideal for what i want. "pay for what you get!

thanks again mate :)

1.4 TSi Fuel Economy

Do you guys really get 40-50mpg out of yours?

In my 1.4tsi I've yet to ever get more that 35mpg. Even at a steady 70 on the motorway, the fuel readout hovers around the wrong side of 40 (unless I decellorating).

I've had mine a couple of months now, and done just over 1100 miles, so I was hoping the efficency would climb right up.. but not so far..

Are you still only getting up to 35MPG out of your 1.4 TSi??
I have the 1.4 TSi Sport and I'm getting the same - nowhere near the 47MPG which is quoted by Seat. I've done 4000 miles now...

I got 47MPG on a 300 mile motorway cruise a month or so back. Mine is a reference sport

You've done more miles than me (I've now only done 2600!). Things have improved slightly, but it's still pretty poor. Last tank averaged 35mpg, which I don't suppose is too bad - but a long, long way off what was advertised. The dealer I got the car from is now bust, so I took it in to another dealer for a check under warrenty and it "tested ok".... Which means I'm somewhat screwed, as they didn't want to know after that point. Because I can't go back to where I bought it from I might contact seat - but it's tricky as if everything is working ok, then they will just fob me off with "it's down to your driving".. The dealer did suggest to give it up to 10,000 miles to properly run in - but I think they just wanted rid of me, and didn't seem to know much about the 1.4tsi, and suggested it was about right.

I went on 60 mile run last week, mostly motorway and by sitting in 5/6th at 60mph I managed to get an average of 42mpg.. If you don't let the turbo kick in it's more efficient.. but I can't help feeling a little peeved - I've drive diesels for years, and I've gone from a polo estate which averaged 60mpg+ on every tank (15 mpg above the book!), I chose the 1.4 tsi because I thought it would be cheaper to run - it costs me double!

Your car is barley run in at 2600 miles.Give it a few k miles more and you should see an improvement. Also depends on driving style/whether you use air con etc. The leon isn't a very light car either.

The garage prob didnt want to know because there wasn't a problem. AFAIK they cant claim their costs back from SEAT unless there is a fault.

Press the button on the bottom of the stalk when you have the average economy displayed.

OF course your right.. it just hasn't improved since the 800 mile mark. I know a lot depends on driving style, but I'm talking about driving as efficiently as possible (sitting at 50 with cruise control on the motorway) and still not being able to get much above half the advertised AVERAGE figure to me that IS a problem, the garage didn't want to know because their test rig didn't report anything - which isn't my concern...

It's either faulty, and needs fixing, or designed to be like this, in which case it's false advertising. If things were this bad and they didn't improve (and the dealer I got it from was still in business) then I'm tempted to reject the car. Obviously, I'll give it up to 10k.. but things don't look good..

Is it not? I thought the 2.0litr Dsg was the same as the mkv and Fr?

1.4 TSI Fuel Ecomomy

Guys,

After speaking to my VW contact the engines loosen after 10-15k miles so I would expect to see good MPG around then.

I decided to email Seat directly, to ask them why there was such a discrepancy in figures, from those quoted by Seat for combined MPG and the MPG I'm getting. They replied in writing - this is their reply:

I write further to your recent contact with our Customer Service Centre regarding your SEAT Leon 1.4 TSI Sport.
I appreciate your concerns regarding your vehicle's fuel consumption, however, I must point out that the figures listed in our brochures are only a guideline. These figures result from various tests carried out under control conditions and therefore, will differ from those achieved through everyday driving.
As you will appreciate there are various factors which can effect fuel consumption, such as; driving style, prevailing road conditions, vehicle load, tyre pressures, optional accessories e.g. interior options which add to the overall weight of the vehicle or items such as roof bars which increase the drag on the vehicle. Further to this the figure displayed on your vehicle's trip computer is an average combined figure and therefore, gives a reading for the journey as a whole. The vehicle performance and Fuel consumption may improve when parts of the engine have worn in, however, this is not guaranteed.
Should you have any further doubts, I would recommend you contact your local SEAT-approved dealership, and arrange for them to inspect your vehicle, in order to alleviate any misgivings you may have.

So from this I can only deduce I am driving too fast, on poor roads, with 10 people on board, on deflated tyres, air con on full, with roof bars and a couple of bikes on top!

Well let's see if things improve in another 6-10K miles. I should have kept my 1.6 Stylance - it was more economical! :D
