Four Words:
WE BLEW IT UP.............
Yes an interesting day full of disappointment if not fun.
Nibbles arrived at my house at 6am with a beaming smile, after travelling 3/4 hours on the A50 in the Pug with no problems.
Nibbles had lost his driving licence which started the day off nicely. He also got dressed in the dark and ended up wearing odd trainers. ( i kid you not )
We arrived at Oulton Park in good time, checked in, and luckily they agreed to phone the DVLA to check he was legal.
So we were ready to race, we were in the second group out, and the first session was following the safety car to observe the correct line, this lasted about 4 laps with one additional lap on our own. All went to plan except we forgot to turn the video camera on, the car was running fine, and i managed to get one fast lap in. I completely ignored all the signs and marshalls telling me the session was over and proceeded to do an extra lap, and as we were one of the lead cars, all the cars behind me followed me.
This then signalled being called into the Marshalls office like a naughty school boy and got a right good telling off.
At this stage all was fine, and it was Nibbles turn.
We were now on our own and Lee proceeded the thrash the living daylights out of the 20 year Vintage Classic, but by god did it not disappoint. We were out there with a Audi R8, M3, RS4, RX7 and a Skyline but we held our own. The car flew and didnt miss a beat.
Then the session came to and end, and as we slowed and pulled into the pits, there was a cough , a splutter and bang,...... The air was filled with smoke and water. The Pug had given up and that ended the day.
As we had at least one fast session, we were glad that it was all on video, but alas no, the vibration has knocked the camera and nothing was recorded.
The water had disappeared from the header tank, and any more we put in, shot out of the exhaust pipe like a hose pipe.
After a short tow to the local garden centre, Lee remembered he was a member of the RAC so made the call and we waited for hour or so for the truck, Which arrived and then told us that Lees membership didnt include recovery. !
So as a final straw, we opted to use the breakdown policy on our Insurance and waited another hour. It was a sad sight to see the Pug being hauled onto a recovery truck, but this now means that it will come back bigger, better and stronger.
One thing for sure, this is an addictive sport....... But next time im driving first.....
