Hi all :)

I drive a seat Cordoba Tdi 130 and a few days ago i had some work carried out by an independant vw specialist as i couldn't afford SEAT main dealer prices .

The work was as follows : Timing belt and tensioner guide rollers ,
Water pump replacement ,
Auxillary drive belt ,
Annual service ( small)

When i picked the car up i had to go straight to work and as soon as i went to overtake a lorry on the motorway at about 2 - 2 2/5 rpm i heard a deep throated vibration kind of noise that only lasts a second or so
The strange thing is that it doesn't seem to happen in the first 3 gears at all , but only in 4th 5th and sometimes in 6th too.

I took the car back to the mechanic who did the work and he looked at the engine while it was running and assured me that there is no problem with any loose belts or fittings and that the car is safe to go on holiday with tomorrow

I was just wondering if any of you experts out there could shed some light on this as this is starting to annoy me some.

I am no mechanic and don't really understand engines at all , so any pics to illustrate the possible cause along with advice will be greatly appreciated ,

Many thanks ,

Mark

I have the exact same issue, and same car.

After a service at a specialist there is a vibration coming from what sounds like the engine bay.

It only occurs while the engine is under heavy load (ie through acceleration) and is loudest between 2 and 3000 RPM in second and through to 4rth.

I will take it back tomorrow and get it checked out.

I have read on other threads that this noise gradually decreases until it disappears, so if it is plastic or something knocking it will eventually get worn away. Could also be exhaust heat shielding, will have a look under the car during the day.

Did you get your problem fixed?

Just got it back, it was the bonnet swing arm that was coming loose when the lid was closed shut.

It was poping out and rattling all over the engine bay.

couple of quid to get a new clip. (or a roll of tape)

Mine was definitely the small orange clip holding the bonnet arm in its place. It was worn and a little loose which led the clip to vibrate the arm against the battery cover. New one was put in and the vibration is gone.... So far!

Hi all :)

With reference to my original posting on this topic.

Had a bad experience on tuesday while driving home from work

Basically , while pulling away at a set of traffic lights there was a loud popping noise followed by lots of white smoke from the tail pipe and a whining noise under acceleration and also a complete power loss

To cut a long story short my damm turbo has busted.
I had the car towed to my local VW independant garage and the mechanic told me after examination that it was definately the turbo.

He said that something seemed to have come loose on the turbo / housing ( not sure quite what he said ) and this had probably caused the problem.

I was also wondering if the vibration noise that i have been experiencing could have had something to do with this problem of the turbo as well .

My car has only covered 53k and has a full service history with seat or a VW specialist
Any comments will be greatly appreciated ,

Mark

PS : i had the car checked by the AA before being towed to the garage and the man told me that he had checked the turbo pipes ( which were a common problem for coming loose ) but these were all secure and not the problem
