After having some ongoing problems with front suspension (i think its top mounts) im going to order the front poly bush kit from powerflex, to fit when the new topmounts are fitted.
anyone used these, what do you think, and how were they to fit?

I can't speak for the Leon, but on my old Golf I fitted poly bushes and engine mounts and it was terrible - the increased amount of vibration and noise that came into the car was really bad. I did it because the Golf was becoming a track car, but this was about 6 months before I took it off the road. Maybe it wouldn't be as bad on the Leon, but make sure you speak to someone who has done it before commiting yourself!

i fitted vibratechnic engine mounts to my ibiza and they did exactly what youve described above, thats why im wondering if just the suspension ones (not engine mounts) wouldnt be as bad? or am i wrong?
thanks for your input :)

If you are just looking at wishbone bushes then it probably wouldn't make a massive amount of difference to the noise/vibration issue. I just think for the road OE stuff is the best compromise between handling & comfort. If you think the standard bits on there are worn, putting new standard bits on will make a big difference. On my BMW I had all the bushes front and rear changed for new standard parts and it was like driving a different car! It was fantastic!

I agree...Iv put poly bushes on a few cars...and im my experience...its best to only put them in certain places. On my bmw, i replced the bushes on the anti roll bar..But not the tiebar...as they had a habbit of bending due to the lack of "give".

If yours are worn..id agree that maybe its best replaced with standard parts.

i have had my suspension bushes changed (rear axle and all the wishbone bushes). my other half did it over easter weekend and he said the wishbones were not a hard job to do..........the rear.......................well thats another story!.......a press helps

i havent noticed any noise issues....the steering is very responsive and i am very impressed....
i have read on another VW forum that the powerflex dog bone/engine mount bush does increase noise, but i havent changed mine.

Powerflex poly bushes....got them from Awesome GTi........the full kit was £109.
but if your just doing the front ones it will obviously be less than that...check out the website........:)

what problems were you having with the front suspension as I think my drivers side top mount is worn or something as when at over 4k rpm the dash and steering wheel vibrates and makes a really loud noise like the engine were actually in the seat next to me. have spent few days checking over the engine bay, fault codes etc everything seems fine in that dept.

Then i remembered i had the cv joint gater on the driver side changed a month or so ago because it had split...could it be that all I am suffering with is worn bushings/badly refitted top mount? having never suffered this before so I am oblivious to the symtoms.

anyone shed some light as it drives me mad the noise and vibration it causes when all i wana do is over take the lorry in front or something.

Mine is slightly different.

its a definate solid "clonk" knocking noise, at any speed, and seems more obvious at lower speed (i think due to lack of road noise) i dont feel much though the steering wheel, although there is a transmission of the clonk though the floor and steering.

Im 95% mine is the topmount bearing, but its that 5% im not sure about!

top mount rubber + bearings cost around £25 for the set but its the fitting plus camber and tracking that costs.

the reason im going to fit the poly bushes to the front is beacuse there seems to be a bit more play in them than "normal" (i think!?)
Im wondering if that is why the topmount has failed, excess travel of the wheel horizontally, which is a force the topmount shouldnt be exposed to?!
for the sake of £60 for the front kit, its worth it in my eyes

hmmmm, i have been pulling my hair out trying to figure out what it is i can only think that something is vibrating because of the engine vibration transfered through the driveshafts was going to remove and refit the strut but who ever fitted the suspension before i got the car managed to strip the top nut that holds the piston still while you undo the other one. (i have koni adjustable shocks). I was just guessing that maybe it hasn't been correctly fitted back on at the top or something and has a lil bit of movement that lets it vibrate.

symtoms don't happen at any other revs till over about 4k rpm. and does it whether am moving or not and with all acc off (a/c etc).

car on 80k miles

sorry to hi-jack thread.

no problem,

sounds to me more like an engine vibration than suspension if it does it when the car is stationary too.

first thing i would look at would be engine mounts. maybe the dogbone mount under the car?!
